Trouba took way too many penalties and is overpaid for a 3rd pairing defenseman.
Rangers have the offensive upside, but got peppered. Shore up defense with these UFAs and run it back next year.

both fair comments. I can't fit Kakko under without taking a small bridge deal & Trouba's M-NTC makes me want to take the easy way out lol

Look at it in a few other ways. Trade him with 50% retention... Same cap hit, but costs the NYR even less. Another team will 100% take him retained for sure!

you're absolutely right. It also helps sign Kakko & keep him somewhat happy.

Well, we Anaheim guys must be missing something, because we've been saying for weeks that we'd be happy to take him off your hands for a third-round pick (retention, if any, negotiable). Given the fact that his actual compensation is 75% of his cap hit, he's an attractive target for us. The issue, of course, is whether his wife's medical program is transferable to Southern California.
