I can’t even call $12M per year for him an overpayment. It’s just hard to fit that number in unless you’re a team with loads of cap space (Utah is an example here) that’s just starting to build their core of players. My offer still stands but it’s contingent upon having an extension in place that both parties agree to.

My order of preference probably would be Mercer > Casey > Holtz (I have a feeling Holtz wouldn’t be utilized like Kakko)

Devils window starts next year til 2030 with the cap sky rocketing 4-5m per season and most players are on good long term deals already they'd be fine

Dumping Palat wouldn't cost Mercer
