Mika, a legit 2C capable of ppg production, costing 6m AAV isnt worth.... a 2nd round pick, bottom 6 player and moving back 10 spots in the 1st round of a weak draft?

Value for production of each of these players is pretty good, and I’d be very interested in all of them. That being said I don’t think we move that much draft capital to take on so much salary with huge raises coming for Mo and Raymond.

If we think we can make the cap work I think we'd have to take those deals. Maybe take out the third unless you retain more on Trouba and just include him in the Zib trade as no value.

Let me ask you something. If Trouba was a free agent this year, what do you think he could get on the open market? Is it more/less/or on par with 6.5m?

I think fans have drastically varying takes on Troubas worth. Lots of fans hate him, think he's bad, whatever. I'm not in that camp. Have held ground for a while that he's the rangers captain for a reason and is quite valuable. I think I'm near the higher end of what fans think of him. I also think gms are going to value him at least as much or more than fans do on average.

All that said, equal to or less than 6.5. at age 30, I bet someone would give him a 4X6 or 5X5.5. maybe even slightly more.

So do I think Trouba is worthless in a trade? No. Maybe at 8 mil though you can't find a trade partner, everything considered. At 6 mil, maybe you can but they're not willing to 'help out' the rangers / are going to have to make other moves to make it work. That's why if Detroit were to take on both Zibanejad and Trouba, I said I'd love to have them. But we'd have to make so many accompanying moves that I wouldn't want to pay a bunch to get them. Considering the picks we'd need to dump other guys.

Cause I reread what you wrote and you said take the 3rd out, add Trouba to Mika and call it a wash. However still... my revised thought was Trouba (1.5m retained) for a 3rd and Petry. Atleast in this situation were taking a contract back.

Mika has plenty of value. Trouba also has value imo but it's a ton of salary to take on so then I become less willing to pay. I would do Trouba for a third if you take Holl back.

If Holl comes back in the trade, then theres no retention. Completely defeats the purpose of moving Trouba.

Yeah no retention is what I meant. Saves you nearly 5 mil but you still have a player. Detroit gets tougher. Deal?

I dont know much about Holl, but as long as he can skate faster than Trouba, make hits and block shots... the 5m in savings could be worth it. Worst case scenario, Rangers could try to find a secondary trade partner for Holl, or waive him and see if someone will want him. Options could be there.

I honestly don't know much about him either bc he hardly played last season lol. But as a bottom pair defender at a prime age and wanting to prove last season wrong, probably is ok.

Wings would be fools to turn down Mika at 6.5 mil. The next 3 years will be fantastic value.
