Habs accept even though they aren't really interested in Kakko, but I imagine they'd have to offer more to get him more. Even though he's probably not a target for them, Habs would easily be willing to offer a better prospect (like Kidney) and the 2025 DET 4th on top of the 2025 VAN 3rd for example. Even then, even though Kakko doesn't really have much value, I think the Rangers will probably want more in return.

Rangers would be dumb to trade Kakko for that little. Trouba's most likely staying put, as nice as it would be to trade him.

Would the Habs do a 3rd and Heineman? Kakko's defense is good but they are cornered cap wise and can't keep putting north of 2 million towards him.

I said it won't land you Kakko, but it's probably the most I'd be willing to offer. I also don't think the Habs will be trading with the Rangers anytime soon anyway. Kakko just screams bust and he's just be a defensive 3RW for the rest of his career. Nothing wrong with that, but I'd rather use bigger assets like seconds, better prospects and firsts on bigger fish

Lehkonen was a great defensive 3rd line winger and it costed a late 1st + 2nd round pick (in terms of value) for Colorado. So I don’t think you understand the value of a great young 3rd line winger cost controlled
