I really like this for both sides but the pick swap seems slightly unnecessary. Calgary gets a young natural goal scorer in Kaliyev who clearly needs a change of scenery, along with an excellent young offensive defenceman. It seems like it's only a matter of time before Markstrom gets traded, and I honestly doubt Mangiapane would want to sign an extension to stay in Calgary. The retention is great because the Mangiapane retention will only be for this season and the Markstrom retention will only be for 2 seasons and Calgary will clearly not be needing lots of cap space as they will not be competitive by then. I'm not sure if Calgary would be willing to part ways with Kuzmenko, but he would make a lot more sense for LA instead of Mangiapane as he is a right shot and the only right shot forward they have under contract currently is Alex Lafferriere.

So you don't want a potential #1 powerplay quarterback and a potential #1 powerplay shooter?

I'm sure they do, but neither of those things are in the offer. Spence will be a bottom pair dman and Kaliyev will bounce around the league, because he's basically Daniel Sprong. If the Kings were actually offering those things in this deal, I'd see Brandt Clarke and Adrian Kempe in the deal, not a couple guys who routinely get scratched.

Maybe if you actually watched them play instead of looking at their hockeydb and calling it a day you'd see the potential. Kaliyev has an elite NHL shot and will thrive somewhere away from the Kings system. Yes, he got scratched a lot this year, but that is because he doesn't fit the Kings system and is not a great depth piece. If he is given proper minutes on a bad team (Calgary) he will absolutely thrive due to his natural offensive instincts. I see him eventually as a solid offensively gifted 2nd liner. He can play the powerplay as he has a crazy shot. He's not going to wow you defensively, but over the course of the season we've seen it improve, he's also only 22 years old and has plenty of time to develop the defensive side of his game. Jordan Spence is NOT a guy who gets routinely scratched, he also just doesn't fit the Kings as they do not want to play Doughty, Clarke, and Spence all together which is why Clarke spent most of the year with the Reign. Spence is an explosive offensive guy with crazy edges, he reminds me a lot of a guy like Quinn Hughes with a lower ceiling. Spence will clearly not stay as a bottom pair dman for his career. The dudes 23 years old and this is only his first full NHL season, I see him as a guy who is probably a 2nd pair guy who will also quarterback the #1 powerplay. He isn't elite defensively but he can for sure hold his own. Also why in gods green earth would Kempe be in this deal. Makes 0 sense. Trading your #1 shooter who is also elite defensively on an insane contract is just dumb.
