How is VGK gonna afford Mariner’s next contract under the Cap ?

I figure they would chuck someone out like they have the last couple of time, like Fluery, but with the cap going up, I figured Marner's next deal would be like $12-$13 mil if he hits free agency. Maybe he fits under if Vegas gets him on a 8 year deal? Maybe that would reduce the cap hit? Idk, I just thought the trade was as close to fair value tbh.

Ottawa doesn't need to pay to add that salary when you can easily find equivalent players for cheaper every offseason

Why is toronto adding a first to that deal?

Marner would have all the leverage to demand a big contract though
Bc if the team who trades for him doesn’t give it to him,
then he walks as a UFA & they just lost assets for nothing
