Objectively (outside of Boston and Carolina) - 9 out of 10 people would agree Ullmark is an immediate upgrade over Anderson. Especially given recent history with Ullmark the reigning Vezina winner and Anderson having bloodclots. Add in the career trajectories and the gap continues to widen.

Good luck finding that 1 out of 10.

North Carolina has 10.9 million people and well there are those in Toronto hahahha so I had to put some margin of error for those two variables smile

Buddy, one guy won the Vezina and put up better numbers than Anderson playing for Buffalo before that. Necas has had one season that has come close to the potential you seem to think he can just turn on. "Those fancy stats" are what dictate contracts and were the reason the bruins plugged Ullmark in and he thrived. You can say something until you're blue in the face but it doesnt make it correct.

Ask yourself this honestly, if they dont trade Necas and they go to arbitration what do you think the arbitor awards him? Honestly he is probably looking like 6 - 6.5 for having one strong year, hes isnt getting the 7.5 or 8 along the lines of debrincat or fiala which is the return canes fans are looking for. On the other hand if he is worth that, can the canes afford that without loosing another big piece?

What’s Ullmark’s save % in the playoffs? I’ll wait for that one…

Why didn’t he play over Swayman if he’s so much of an upgrade over Andersen?

He’s 30 and has 1 yr to UFA. For the upteenth time, his value isn’t in the same stratosphere as Necas

If the Canes can get Necas signed to a 1yr deal at $6-6.5M, they’d be elated. You act like they have no cap space.

I mean sure if you want to use a 10 game sample where he was hurt for 6 last year and got put into a blowout with 5 men already ejected on a short bench you could absolutely use that as a strawman argument by all means.

Anyone with a brain saw they had two so why not use the year the team wasnt supposed to contend to make sure your goalie of the future can handle the load? Also Swayman was on the level of Ottenger and Shiesterkin by every metric and eye test.

So if a 30 year old is too old then a 35 year old with more milage, blood clots, and a track record of playoff failure is the answer?

You can't have your cake and eat it too. If they got him at 6-6.5 he is clearly not worth the king's ransom you claim which was the point you struggle to understand. He is either worth the value you expect in which case he would be too expensive and cost carolina another piece, or he is not worth what you think and the inevitable trade will reflect that.

You're right what Cap space does Carolina have without having to lose guys? 27 mil to resign Pesce, Jarvis, Drury, Guentzel, Necas, Skjei, Deangelo, Teravienan is plenty, I guess the GM to be named will step in and convince everyone to take a discount and forget about wanting out.

Actually they have $30M, none of Martin, Seeley, Nadeau or Blake will be on roster to start the season next year.

If they dump Kotkaniemi, there’s $4M more, so yeah, there’s plenty to keep who they need to keep.

Why would they deal Necas for less than full value when they have 2 more years of control? If they can get him at $6.5M, they take that to the bank and revisit the contract next summer. What’s so hard for you to understand about that? They don’t “have to” trade him. And guess what? It’s been reported there are over a dozen teams interested in him, if they do trade him, they’ll get exactly what they want.

Funny how you totally ignore Ullmark’s age and contract status. Andersen/Kochetkov is fine for the regular season. If Kochetkov hasn’t grabbed the net by trade deadline next season, then they can revisit a goalie upgrade.
