We'd rather keep Gudbranson because 1) he's been a good mentor for the kids, 2) he's the only purely defensive defenseman we currently have, and 3) retaining 50% on him removes the only possible motivation for moving him at all (cap savings).

Also, that Saros trade is... questionable. Throwing in the 1st and retention?

Your first point is more than fair, I had originally planned to acquire a second for Lily and send it your way. As for the retention for Saros, 1.5 mil for 1 year to go along with a late first is an absolute bargain for Marner still (assuming there's an extension in place). Marner is still a top 3RW in the game and just turned 27 two weeks ago. As good as Saros has been, his value is not on par with that of Marner's. The retention is of little consequence to the Preds anyway.

Ottawa declines. Another team probably beats that pretty easily.

I think you're making a baseless assumption instead of trying to get an idea of his value. Hanifin went for a 1st, 3rd and a 26 year old defenseman who's a regular scratch. Hanifin also looked considerably better at that time and Calgary retained 50% of his deal.

Not to mention robertson is already a solid 3rd line scorer and projects to be top 6 sooner than later. So yeah, doubtful that anyone beats that offer and the sens would be foolish not to take it, as that would allow them to replace his cap hit with someone like Roy, Pesce, Tanev, Demelo etc.

if leafs want Chych, your going to have to overpay and this aint it., if OTT cant get the deal they want, they will resign him, chych wants to stay anyways.

That is an overpay, you just have no idea what he's worth clearly. If they resign him at 7-8 mil while already having Sanderson and Chabot down the left side and obvious needs elsewhere, well, I guess I don't mind seeing the sens continue to drop the ball either, but I think you're new GM is smarter than that.

rofl thats not an overpay, 22nd oa and 3rd liner and a 2nd is not an overpay, they will get better offers and they will take less to move out of division.

A 22 year old RFA who projects to be a regular 30 goal scorer, that's not important though. Like I said, go look at the hanifin deal as a comparison. His value at the time of trade was higher, and the return was less.

If you're going to take less just to spite the leafs then jokes on you.

We've been through this with Hoffman - TRADE WITHIN YOUR DIVISION. Take the best deal no matter where it is, because if the Sens don't whoever they trade with will, and Chychrun would still end up on the Leafs and Sens with egg on their face - again.

I'm also high on Robertson and think the Leafs would be stupid to trade him, especially if Marner goes. I've never understood why he doesn't get regular ice time - lots of skill, thinks the game very well, and decent compete level. Put him with Matthews for a while and they'll be scoring in bunches.
