Who deserves to be back

Description
Skjei & Pesce can go their separate ways. No need to dump huge contracts in defenders close to and beyond 30 unless they are major difference makers (Slavin extended July 1). Good luck in Toronto Pesh. Hope Skjei can cash in…anything more than $5m is an overpayment.

Turbo can come back if he’s paid like a bottom six player, not as a top 6 guy. Thanks Turbo, good luck in [name your non competitive team willing to overpay].

I love Noesen, but he deserves to cash in and I don’t think the Canes are that team. Welcome back for under $2m but he might get 3+ and some term on open market.

Raanta - good luck with your retirement.

Tony - it was fun and frustrating good luck in Europe.

KK - might be good for a fresh start and smaller contract elsewhere. I was on the bandwagon early, no development here. Good luck bud.

Freddie - Canes have a track record of moving on from Goalies who have been playoff losers for us. See Mrazek, Ned, etc…. Maybe someone will take him as a stop gap.

Necas - goodbye you tantalizing SOB. Thanks for everything, now it’s time for you to be used as the sacrificial lamb for roster hole filling.

Find a backup goalie somewhere. Probably need a better 7th D.

This team probably overachieves, probably finishes top 3 in the metro, but isn’t a true cup contender this year.

Lol what? Necas is a solid player but Granlund (worth a 1st at the dealine), Ferraro (worth a 1st + given his value to the org), Chmelevski (worth around a 3rd rounder), and you add the 14th overall on top of that?

This is awful for the sharks

Respectfully - this was not the total point of the post but appreciate your comment (except for the condescending’lol’).

If MG or MF were worth a 1st, they should have been traded. Ok take Sasha out and get nothing for him. Or the Canes can just move Necas elsewhere. Seems like a top 6 RFA who wouldn’t be someone the Sharks could get on the market.

Seems like a bad move for the sharks all around.

I doubt a player coming off of a competitive team will be happy to sign a long term contract with the worst team in the league, making him a likely 1 year player.
The cost for that being their top D and C, 14th overall, and the wildest of wild cards in Chmelevski seems like a poor value trade with bad intentions.

Because they don't want to trade them? That's why they weren't dealt.

Granlund had 60 points in 69 games on the worst offensive team in like 20 years. He'd easily get a first at this years deadline if they don't look to extend him.

Ferraro is literally the heartbeat of this team and as I said, his high price is due mostly to his leadership and what he means to the team. Objectively he's MAYBE be worth a 1st, but they avsolutely don't want to move him, therefore he costs a lot more.

Again, this isn't some late 1st rounder, this is 14th overall.

Depending on if you mean generally or in this post…

He went from a high stress and expectations environment in MTL to what should have been a much better situation, but the circumstances of the offer sheet and team success expectations added stress. Don’t think he’s in a good situation for him, and I’m concerned he won’t progress. Canes make the decision to cut him loose for the cost of an ELC/league min contract for many years to come.

Fair enough on your points, but still not the main point of this post. Necas will be moved to fill gaps in the roster.

He was a 2C to start the year…supposed to be on fringe of top-20 centers or top-30.

Now is bought out.

I’m not trying to bring out the hot takers and mean spirited people, but KK just isn’t that dude, especially not for ~$5m. He wilted under the pressure in MTL and now in CAR. I don’t see a path for him to come back to a serviceable middle 6 C unless something changes for him…and that change might have to be the pressure of being the offer sheet guy making too much money.

It’s a cheap buyout, so I get that. Would probably find a taker for him…even if return is small.

Some had a very bullish take on him going into year. It was probably a little too optimistic. But young centers don’t come along often. A buyout would seen unlikely to me. But I guess if it’s u25 and cheap, maybe it’s just one of those hard choices to make.

even if you subtract from his value overestimates a bit, SJ still gets fleeced in the trade...

I have nothing against anyone holding Kotkaniemi in high regard. I actually had a more bullish take on him that most non-Hurricanes fans…and believed he could have been sufficient in middle-six center role.
