Terrible value for MTL. It wouldnt be near to being enough for Matheson. Adding Savard is just insulting

While there is no debating Matheson is a very very good player I can't see the Canucks making this trade.

Matheson is great and productive on Montreal because he is their #1 defensemen. However on the Canucks he would be a clear second option, be relegated to PP2 behind Hughes and wouldn't be able to produce at near the level he does for the Habs. On top of that your asking the Canucks to take on cap dump and give up 2 prospects and 2 very high draft picks.

I think the Canucks would pass.

So toss a 19/20 year old Reinbacher straight onto the top line?

No issue with anything you said except the Cap Dump comment. I assume you mean Savard. I disagree he is a Cap Dump, teams were calling on him this TDL but Montreal had little reason to move on from him with 1 year remaining and our Defense group being young. Serving as a mentor for 1 more year, then flipped at this TDL. Savard for whatever reason has a bad reputation amongst some, he is still a very valuable player and the type you want in the playoffs.

If you don't want him,i understand, just disagree with the terminology and the idea that I was adding negative value, to me, hes positive value in any deal. to that we can disagree with eachother.

You could view it as that. Habs could play the three lines equally, even play Kovacevic agaiinst harder matchup teams.

End of the day, kid was drafted 5th for a reason. There is no expectations on this team, shouldnt be an issue.

1st, 2nd, former 1st, former 2nd.

Not sure what the issue is. Pod is underperforming, Raty is overperforming his draft ranking. Could get more if we trade them separately, but thats debatable. Both likely get a 1st + pick and/or B prospect.

Imagine thinking you’re getting more than a 1st, a 2nd, a good prospect, and a young NHL winger for Matheson. That’s crazy

Canucks pass easily. Matheson won’t be a Canuck considering his history with Pettersson. Plus he wouldn’t be nearly as productive for us as he has been in Montreal as he wouldn’t get the top pairing or PP1 time that he gets in Montreal, and he’s not good enough defensively to justify that return.

Savard is a cap dump to us as well. We can sign a better RHD for just as much money or for cheaper

Not to mention if we’re giving up that much in a trade it would be for a star winger to play with Pettersson (or maybe a RHD to play with Hughes if Hronek priced himself out of Vancouver)

Players battle all the time and find themselves as teammates in the future. These are hyper emotional highschool kids.

I welcome your ideas for a better RHD at $3.5M or cheaper.

I’d much rather re-sign Myers for 2.5-3.5M rather than trade for Savard

Tanev potentially takes a discount to come back to Vancouver (potentially more than 3.5M though so he might not count)

Alex Carrier will potentially be around 3.5M on the FA market

Jani Hakanpaa, Jalen Chatfield, and Colin Miller will all be cheaper and I’d rather have them

I think the Rangers fantasy with Josh Anderson is over, been burned so many times trading young talent for toughness
