If that's the case which Marner would never sign long term in Utah, that doesn't get Marner on his own. A 45point forward and a 2nd pairing d-man plus a 3rd rounder for a top 5 RW in the league and maybe the best 2-way winger in the league. Plus the leafs add Liljegren. At least trade him to a contender not a bottom feeder.

I get your point, although I have a feeling that Utah is going to be extremely active this offseason. I see them spending to the cap and getting lots to surround Marner, while still having him be the face of their franchise. The other big thing the leafs get with this trade is cap space, which they can immediately reinvest in their defense. Crouse also acts as a cheaper Bertuzzi replacement and Durzi comes in to QB the Powerplay. I could see Utah giving up other pieces to make this more worthwhile, especially with the inclusion of Liljegren, but this would be the bones in a trade that I think works for both sides
