The chances AA comes back or is traded for are sling to none

Can't see the Hawks having any interest in two more years of Chiarot. Rather just keep AA.

I don't hate that trade for CHI. I think DET could probably do better, though. Maybe even ask for retention on AA. I know LHD is the last thing CHI needs, but I don't hate the idea of bringing in an experienced vet to make Korchinski and company really battle for a roster spot, instead of just handing it to them, and battling for minutes if he/they make the roster out of camp. Chiarot could always play on the 3rd pair or be a 7th defenseman if the kids outplay him. I doubt he has any chance of taking Vlasic's job on the top pairing, though.

If Chiarot was 1 year I could see it. But it doesn't make sense to tie up a roster spot for 2 years on a players whose peak is maybe 3 pair D at a position of strength.

He is a solid NHL dman, albeit probably overpaid. CHI has no one to sign next summer that he has even a slight chance of getting in the way of. Two years doesn't matter.
