Description
Taxi Squad = Players who could make the lineup.

I know I'm a Habs fan, but honestly if I'm the Canes I'd trade Necas. He doesn't excel enough defensively to be trusted at center and he isn't nearly as a good fit in the system than Guentzel. Re-signing Teuvo and using Necas as trade bait to get future assets that'll allow you to reload the core would also prove to be more efficient cap-wise. The destination doesn't have to be Montreal, but it's probably the trade partner that makes the most sense. Harris is very underrated imo and he'd be a great fit here. Ylonen needs a change of scenery, but he's a good speedy bottom 6 guy who's do better here. Both firsts can be used to reload on talent at future deadlines.

The two first is too much for Necas, he's not worth that - and the players would be of no interest to the Canes. I'm sure Harris is a capable LD, I'd rather pair a more veteran defender with Morrow while he gets adjusted to the pro game. I'm also not sure why the choices are keep Guentzel or trade Necas, when you can let turbo walk and keep the younger more dynamic player. Or bridge Jarvis, see if Guentzel takes less, and try to keep all 3.

My logic here was that Harris plays like a veteran. He's not flashy, but he almost never does mistakes and he's smart. He's also a great community guy and he's very eloquent. He seems as someone who's a good fit with their core. I signed Martinez in case he doesn't gel well with Morrow.

You can keep both of them if you don't re-sign Turbo and you buyout KK,, but the cap would be extremely tight. This allows you to be more flexible cap-wise and it would give the Canes room to use their draft capital to improve up front at the deadline.

What would be a fair trade for Necas from the Habs then? 1st + Mesar + Harris?? I know Necas isn't worth the moon either but he's a young productive player so he's definitely worth way more than a first.

Onlyif it's a sign and trade, maybe but i would be tempted for an offer sheet at this price...

And the Canes have a lot of young guns coming. Farrell and Ylonen won't crack the team... No needs.

Necas is a perfect target for MTL
The problem is MTL wouldn’t want to part ways with what CAR would want …

Montreal will likely gonna make the Offer Sheet threat during the trade negociations if Carolina aren't able to grow down their trading price.

They did something like that to convince Allen to open his NMC for NJ, with sending him on waivers or buyout his contract this summer.

MTL aren’t desperate for Necas, our picks are more important because they could end up very low. Kent Hughes said not this offseason but the next one will be a very important/active one. A lot of 2025 picks, a lot of contracts expiring (Dvorak, Armia, Evans, Savard, Kovacevic). I think he will make a trade this offseason but I don’t think it’s gonna be for a young top 6 forward (Zegras, Necas, etc.).

There isn’t a universe where Necas is worth that return.

Necas' trade value is somewhere between Reinhart and Fiala (1st and good prospect), with the caveat that neither situation is particularly comparable. Buffalo trading Reinhart was a reset to their rebuild, and Minnesota was gaining 14 million in dead cap. The most likely scenario that Necas gets traded - in my opinion - is if he is packaged with picks for a replacement with term/team control, or a top 4 RHD to fill in after Burns retires. For these reasons the Canadiens aren't great trade partners; they aren't going to trade their young guys, their window is about to open.

I think the Canes front office has a number they are willing to give Guentzel, my guess is it starts with an 8, and probably for 5-6 years. He'll likely walk - see Trocheck, or Hamilton, and then they will have plenty of space to re-sign Necas if they so choose.

The Calgary first could be worth a ton in a very very strong draft and a team that is probably rebuilding. Not worth it
