Marner needs to be sent to a place where he wont be as relevant, which will humble him and make him focus on what the goal for his career as player will really be. I think a move to a smaller hockey market or just getting him out of that locker room will benefit both parties. I found that a trade package which includes a top dman and a top 5 prospect plus some picks (i assume the trade will not look like this but for a player with Marner's production an offer would end up something like this). Revamping the D core is imo the most important thing for this leafs team. Signing quality middle 6 guys like zadorov and chatfield for a reasonable price will benefit the leafs overall play defensively and provide them more physical and solid guys down the lineup. I wouldnt mind if they brought back Laggeson but to me it wasn't in the cards. to replace Marner the leafs will sign Jake Guentzel who is just a better player then marner and i think he may be a better fit also. Loaing bertuzzi will hurt but i think spendign the money that would pay him on defensive depth and gialtending will be important, Signing brossoit and havign a very solid goalie who may not be a true starter but having that rotation with woll there will be improved goaltending play. Overall if the decide to have this type of team they will probably be harder to play against in the playoffs now with very strong defensive depth and injecting the lineup with younger guys like cowan and bolduc they can provide depth scoring that the leafs have lacked for years
