Description

If the Washington and Vancouver picks are more than 10 spots apart, is a second and a half-retained Mangiapane enough to move up?

These move up deals are so hard to pull off but there are plenty of forwards worth picking around the mid first… that aren’t that much more appealing than a late first. It could be the kind of year that someone can move up a bunch. I would hope that that is Calgary.

It seems like a slight overpay on CGY's part, but that's because I value Mangiapane(50% retained) around a 2nd. It would really depend on how much the scouting staff likes who's on the board.

CGY moved down from 19th overall in 2020 twice for 2 x 3rds, and ended up with the 24th overall + 72nd + 80th.

Really comes down to where the picks end up. 8 and 18 is a lot different than 14 and 24 if going with the 10 pick difference you referenced. If it's the first option, I doubt the Caps would trade the pick, if it's the second and the Caps are open to trading, this seems like a decent option. I do like the idea of adding Mange. Regardless, McMichael gets way more than 1.75M.

Yeah I like using a winger to move up as a Flames fan and a team like WSH would also probably like something like this.

They have plenty of cap space. Mange might be sent no cap retained and it appears to work “ok”.

Anyways. Flames will have a lot of prospects going forward. So a move up to get a second higher-probability prospect this year makes sense to me.
