Still in his prime and he's one of the best playmaker in the league in my opinion (which is lacking on the VAN team)

Vancouver's summer so far says they want to make the playoffs a couple more times while the Sedins are a factor, so I could see them giving up significant prospects and picks for the only consistently better Swedish player in the NHL (You could argue Forsberg, but who'd be dumb enough to trade Forsberg?). Is Hutton looked at as a trade piece, here, or just salary cap managment?

I don't see the Caps trading a young top pairing defenseman in Orlov, though, if they're rebuilding. Seems counterproductive. I think Detroit could take a 2nd pick out of that deal and Washington should still take it from a hockey standpoint, even if they wouldn't want the rebranding headache. So maybe keep the 2nd for marketing value? But Larkin, Nyquist, and two first picks, seems like a whole lot of potential. My guess is that Detroit keeps those established young players and, if they want Ovechkin, prefers to offer four first picks/top prospects. That way they have an easier time contending while Green and Ovechkin can still play. If the Caps can get another two first picks and prospects for Backstrom, and one of each for Oshie, Niskannen, and Carlson, they should be a powerhouse throughout the '20s. The other prizes from this series of trades are two years of lottery draft picks, and not having to worry about buying out Orpik.

Canucks have a playmaker coming in Petterson (19 years old) why would they need one in Backstrom for just 1 year? Makes 0 sense to get rid of Boesser who needs someone to pass him the puck.

Burakovsky will prob be better than Nyqvist, you could rebuild WITH Backstrom involved, if you're really rebuilding you'd get rid of Carlson, Grubi, and probably Eller...but not necessarily Oshie who'd be at a value compared to other comparable forwards.

I dunno...messy to model.

For starters, we aren't going to rebuild. We have some decent young players coming up in the pipelines that can fill in for guys we have to let walk. If things start to get messy for us and we're in danger of missing the playoffs (which still won't happen most likely), then we trade away players like Carlson, Eller, Beagle, Chorney, Grubauer (if someone needs a goalie) and maybe some other minor pieces. But that's probably not going to happen, and we won't have to rebuild.
