Canes pass. There's not enough there to dump Copp, if you want KK too you're adding a LOT more

Copp and JK have very similar offensive output over the past few years with copp also being better on the d side of things. Saves the canes a million in cap for a similar player with way less term. Wings throw in a cheap middle six winger and 2nd for some potential and can give him top 6 minutes.

    Copp at 3.6M >>>>>> KK at 4.8M

KK is the least valuable piece in this trade when you factor in the retention on Copp. KK is a cap dump. He’s a 4.8M bottom 6 player with a lot of term

Counter argument: Add the $2M in retention on Copp to Detroit absorbing KK's entire cap hit, and you're paying $6.8M for the next three years for a guy that has 25 points this season and doesn't really do anything else to contribute.

    ... That's a terrible move.

Fair enough, I was banking on his production improving with playing an extra 5-6 minutes a night as the 2nd line center. Let him play with Raymond and he could be a 50-60 point guy.

Ehh, I wouldn't bet on that. His most common linemate this year is Martin Necas and he's still posting those less than stellar numbers.

And I don't think KK beats out Compher for the 2C spot anyways.

Copp's also 8 years older... This is Kotkaniemi's first bad season in Carolina as a normal 40 point pace dude with great defensive upside. There's nothing here worth that.

KK's a 40 point guy having a bad year, he's not a dump. I'd much rather keep him at 4.8 than take on Copp at 3.6

Where you tried to use +/- as a viable stat? Brother, stop. You've proven yourself to be not worth conversing with already.

Fun story, I decided to go back and fact check this and made several fun observations...

    1. The line you're talking about is Bunting/Kotkaniemi/Necas with an xGF/60 of 3.11. Funny thing... That makes it the 50th best xGF/60. So either we have 50 elite lines in the league or that's not elite territory.

    2. Interesting that you didn't bring up the Bunting/Kotkaniemi/Necas lines xGA/60... Which is also 3.11. Which means they break even in expecting scoring. It's also the 29th worst xGA/60 line in the league. Soooo 50th best in xGF/60 but 29th worst xGA/60 isn't a good thing right?

    3. That 3.11 xGA/60 is also Carolina's worst xGA/60 by a country mile. The next worst is Teravainen/Aho/Svechnikov at 2.44 xGA/60.

    4. But I decided to take it a step further! Bunting/Kotkaniemi/Necas is 3.11 xGF/60 and 3.11 xGA/60. Bunting/Drury/Necas is 3.12 xGF/60 and 2.09 xGA/60. Necas/Drury/Noesen is 3.47 xGF/60 and 1.62 xGA/60.

Since I know you're a bit slow, that last point means that both Bunting and Necas are better offensively without KK on their line, and are EXPONENTIALLY better defensively without KK on their line.

    RIP tears of joy

Convenient timing to suddenly stop replying when your xGF/60 argument gets blown to bits. tears of joy

Nope, you just spouted some BS so I stopped caring. Didn't feel like pointing out that the known defensive issue on that line was BUNTING. That's been known about him his entire career. But you do you buddy, you screech into the void. We'll keep KK you keep missing the playoffs, sound good?

Weird that Bunting and Necas’ xGA/60 improved drastically with Drury as opposed to KK, then, isn’t it?

But it didn't... Bunting's 5v5 xGF dropped drastically without Kotkaniemi, it increased in all situations when he was put on PP1, but don't let facts get in the way of your narrative! Necas' xGF improved after Orlov smacked him in the brain and he remembered he's Martin Necas.

KK has put up 40 points/played at a 40 point pace once in 6 seasons. He’s not a 40 point guy

Hate to break it to you, but the line cited where Bunting’s xGF/60 increased is Bunting/Drury/Necas… Which is not Bunting’s PP group.

You keep grasping at those straws though! tears of joy

I might be a little generous with his 36 point pace season in his first year here, but he was also red hot when Wilson hit him with a knee-on-knee hit, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, but even if you don't want to call him a 40 point guy, he's a 35 pint guy whose great defensively. At worst, he's a long term Staal replacement. It makes more sense to dump 36 year old Jordan Staal than the young 23 year old...

laugh KK at 4.8 mil Copp at 3,6 mil for 3 more years, Why in the hell would ever make such a trade. There's only $800,000 difference between KK and Copp and Detroit is eating $6,000,000 on Copp hell no.
