depends on what the rest of the trade would look like. if it required still adding assets to move the rest of the contract, easily buyout. if they could get something, then probably retained trade. if it was retained and then just for the FC, then… probably buyout?

Meh, if the return makes it worthwhile I'd look into it, but honestly I think the 2mil in the first 4 years is more damaging than the extra 1.3mil in the last four years is. 1.3mil 5-8 years from now just won't be a very significant amount of the cap.

Honestly, the buyout isn't that intimidating to me. I think best case scenario is they attach a 2nd or 3rd or something, eat 50% and send him to a team that's willing to buy him out for picks. Neither team would be sweating 50% of his already reasonable buyout.

Would prefer 50% retained if we don't have to sweeten that deal. Otherwise, I'm perfectly content with the buyout. One way or another, Korpisalo can not be one of our goalies next year. I will lose all faith in Staios if he rolls into next season with Korpi as the starter
