Description
Hire a more defensive minded coach. You know with the core guys there will never be a shortage of offence. And that’s not saying all these defensive forwards won’t chip in.

I’m excited to see a line of Domi - Matthews - Marner because we’ve seen all the different combos and they are all good together.
I’d like to see how a line of Knies - Tavares- Nylander because maybe there is still done magic after the series winner. The top two lines are going to be heavily relied on to score goals.
The third line would be a fun line, all good defensively, have a great scoring touch and will grind out for every minute they are on the ice.
When this 4th lind is on the ice nobody is scoring and reminds me of that Lafferty - Kampf - ZAR line last year. They worked their ass off and I still remember it was Game 2 and they scored the goal to go up 6-3 and they were so excited.
Rielly needs a partner so badly because he hasn’t really found a consistently good partner and I think Roy is perfect. It allows Rielly to jump in the rush like he wants to do.
Nothing to complain about with Benny - Caber they are perfect and I love them.
This is the ideal 3rd pair because you got a stat at home defensman that will not put up with **** and a young offensive D that shows flashes of maturity defensively. And Edmunson can teach him how to defend in this league.
On the powerplay, sure we lose Bertuzzi but we know we can get it done with these guys. Put Knies in Berts spot on that top line and play Liljegren on PP1 to start the season. On PP2 we have a bit of everything Rielly guarding the point (which he has gotten a lot worse at as of late), Jarnkrok will do anything, Domi got the passing, McMann got the shot and Tavares is net front.
As for the Penalty Kill, try to spark some chemistry with Laughton and O’Connor because they are both very good at their jobs.
Bring back Kampf and Marner they were unstoppable last year and we need that again.
And if any of those PK’s are playing ****ty then you have Dewar and Nylander or Matthews and Holmberg.
In net we got Joey Woll who needs to step up big because this will be his first year as the opening night starter and Laurent Broissoit.
We need to sign Webber and Grebenkin and as for Moldenhauer whatever but the I’m excited for the others.
I would’ve like to pick Boris off of waivers but if Ottawa doesn’t restrict him we need him. Stretcher would be an ideal 7th D man because I think he could also play with Rielly

TOR
  1. O'Connor, Drew
Détails additionnels:
Why TOR does it:
O’Connor is a great player and he kind of does it all, kills penalties but yet can still put points on the board.
PIT
  1. Timmins, Conor
  2. Choix de 7e ronde en 2024 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
Why PIT does it:
Dubas loves his guys but being for real though this trade just makes sense, Timmins last year looked fantastic and whenever he is in the lineup he plays reasonably well and could maybe help on a struggling Powerplay.
2.
TOR
  1. Laughton, Scott
Détails additionnels:
Why TOR does it:
Laughton is a lot like O’Connor good penalty killer and also puts up a few points and he’s a 3C.
PHI
  1. Robertson, Nicholas [Droits de RFA]
  2. Villeneuve, William
  3. Choix de 3e ronde en 2026 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
Why PHI does it:
Robertson is just so good and with limited opportunities and not enough ice time he can’t reach his full potential with the Leafs. And one thing that might come as a surprise is that he is a great back checker. Villy probably as 7th D maybe bottom pair but you never know and a 3rd is something you could work with.

Given the Penguins lacking forward depth this season, I'm hesitant to move on from DOC unless you're overpaying.
He's a versatile guy that has shown flashes of greater offensive skill than a ~30 point pace implies, and is one of the few Penguins this season who has frequently looked like he gives a ****. And for under $1M next year.
I get the reasoning behind the deal, but I see DOC as a part of Sullivan and Dubas's game plan for the next couple seasons.

A few reports I have read still believe Edmundson to sign for over 3 million. Personally for Edmundson that is an overpay. If we could sign Edmundson to your deal, I would actually be a fan of that resign. Overall the signings are decent. I would prefer Domi at 3 but even at 3.5 is fine. I fear it might take more for Roy, but that may be enough, if not, I don't see more than 6.25. easily attainable.
With the goalies I would sign a Matt Murray or driedger as well. A goalie we can most likely waive to the minors as depth. That adds insurance for our goalie core.

Overall a good lineup and usage of the cap space in my opinion.

Reminds me of the late football coach John Madden.

"Pat, defence wins championships. You have to run the ball to set up the pass. When you can run and pass you can score points. And when you score points and not allow your opponent to score points you can then win games."

"The more times you win games the more successful you'll be and then someday you can win a Super Bowl by not turning the ball over. If you can play great defence and force turnovers and not turn the ball over yourself then you'll win a lot of football games."

    "Brett Favre....is Brett Favre."

I was going to sign Murray after I seen that he’s back on the ice so yeah I agree

Robertson is basically zero value. Dudes injury history and lack of production is glaring. Maybe he can turn it around but Flyers beats already reported Flyers have zero interest in him.
