Just trying to show the cap situation after a Hanifin signing, a new Swayman deal, and trading Ullmark. Enough space for a 1st line forward, but not enough to also keep DeBrusk. I think this lineup illustrates why an Ullmark/PLD base for a deal could make sense.

Planning for that is a mistake., which is why I see one major addition and then a collection of smart 1 year contracts that maybe pay a premium for a short term contract.
That’s one of the reasons that I think Ullmark could be retained or a Reilly Smith could be acquired as an insurance policy forward even though I know there are better options available in free agency
