Description
Most will say that Carlo is untouchable, however, he is your best chip to land a true 1C this summer. I think we could see major change like this in the result of another short playoff. The reason for the bridge year was to see what you had in the cupboard and plan for the future. This lineup is a result of both. Philly fans will want to ride with Ersson, but I think grooming him behind a true #1 would be wise for a franchise that has been begging for decent goaltending. Montour, to me, is an intriguing option; I think Zito let’s both Montour and Reinhart walk. Mixed feelings on Bertuzzi, however, the chemistry with Zacha and Pastrnak is there (should Monty need to juggle up the lines like we know he does). I’m sure this will get a TON of negative feedback but fans would tune in every night to watch this roster.

NYI aren't really in a position to sell their best player for futures with basically every player on their team with a long term contract being 30+

I would agree. But I think this makes Pulock (higher cap than Carlo) expendable for forward help, and the possibility to flip the picks if need be.

I like this concept, although I dont know if NYI will move barzy as they are remaining competitive. I also think ullmark may stop a trade to philly if he stopped one to LA

Very true on both points. I love a team that values hugs over business lol. Help me.

I just couldn't hate this concept any more, and not because of my username. Carlo should be available in the right move.

Is this it though? I don't think it's close. You're moving the teams best non NHL prospect, two firsts (for a team that hasn't been drafting in the first round much) and Carlo for a guy that frankly just isn't a fit? god no. Barzal has averaged 73 points per 82 games over his career, and I don't like his two way game. Honestly, I think he really should be a winger. Overpaid, bad culture fit, heck of a player, but don't change the DNA for that.

ultimately, why would you change the DNA of this team. they're in a transition year and are second in the league. it's just a bad concept.

The Isles will never trade barzal, and especially to the Bruins. I don't get this logic of trading Barzal, to then trade Pulock for another forward who would just have to fill Barzal's spot. The Isles aren't entertaining any trades for Barzal, Horvat, Dobson, or Sorokin

Organizations and coaches utilize players differently than others. I think Barzal could be the dynamic 1C we need. If not you run Bertuzzi-Zacha-Pastrnak and Marchand-Poitras-Barzal. If there is another 1C option that fits better for them then definitely. I still believe this is the package it would take.

In regards to your last comment, points are fun during the season. Sign me up for wildcard placement and deep runs every year. It blows my mind the amount of Bruins fans who are content with regular season success and then use it for their agenda. In a copycat league, is anyone copying the Bruins system ?

Sure, having Ersson play behind a 1# probably won't hurt him, but paying a 1st, 3rd and Barkey in a rebuild for Ullmark who won't be there long-term and probably will skedaddle after his contract is done is a terrible move for Philly.

well that's just the thing - you want a playoff style player and your target is barzal? I just don't see it. to me he's a perimeter player. dependent on the powerplay etc. I think what you want is what they already have. both zacha and coyle play a big style, and both get to the net.

The point is, and I think you recognize this, Barzal isn't an ideal fit. Stylistically, he doesn't fit the mold. Am I for any team going outside of the box a little here and there to get someone that can help? absolutely. but if you're making a franchise altering trade of a core member of the team, the teams top prospect, and two firsts - that player better be a perfect fit. If you're going to offer that, go get JEE.

That’s fair. I respect a lot of your posts on here too. Sorry if my previous post was a little forward. In the end this is most likely moot because the FO value Carlos analytics and intangibles.

likewise, and i certainly didn't mean to be confrontational. I get after so many years of having the centers figured out, it's tough not having that top end guy. I feel like the culture and structure of this team is so strong, that major moves shouldn't be made that shakes up the core, but that's just me!

value isn't the worst, but islanders aren't selling their best player

Philly is in a rebuild/retool so they aren't the team for Ullmark
