Description
My hopes are that this is a transformative offseason. There is no way FSG will take on a full rebuild and get rid of the legends on this team, especially 87. However, you can do a soft rebuild. Put some of the valuable pieces that we have left on the market. Pettersson leads that list and he should have plenty of suitors who would love to have him in their lineup for opening night. He would fetch a solid return unless we hold onto him and end up selling him off as a rental. We all know how that goes, so capitalize on him this summer. I think Rakell can be moved albeit the return would require some kind of cap coming back and a team that sees itself as on the rise. That’s why I think Arizona will look to use their cap space to cheaply acquire veterans. They can’t keep being the way they are and expect to generate a shred of interest in that franchise. Rust should be on the market but I think Sid will want him on his line next year. Therefore, I doubt he goes anywhere. I don’t think anyone will offer up a trade for Jarry but if it’s decent we should take it. I think this season is as good as it gets for him. I don’t see him heading upward from here. Guys like Eller, Acciari, Nieto, and of course Smith should all be available. I don’t think there’s a market for Smith and I think he will be on the team for opening night. I can see a cheap rental trade near next year’s deadline.

As far the coaching goes, Sully should want a new younger team near contention. We need to part ways and send a message of change but not too much. Keep a familiar face around for our veterans, so I say Vellucci gets the job for next season. He has a solid resume and I’d say let him pick his assistants and take the wheel. I also am predicting a front office role for Jeff Carter. Dubas loves the Soo guys.

Hard to see CGY doing that. They move up a bunch, but I doubt they wanna risk not having any 2025 1sts a year ahead. That FLA pick is also in the conditions of the Monahan MTL trade, so not sure they can move it.
Rakell seems like a tough move this summer.
Eller trade seems fine.
Moving MP28 makes us weaker, I dont see the point.
Take out the 3rd for Holl.

Giving up an extra first round pick to move up 12-15 spots? idk how much that brings to the table, because theyd now miss out on their first round pick next year

Considering the fact that Kerfoot fits our bottom 6 far better than Rakell does, and the fact that Rakell is vastly overpaid, Arizona will be declining

The florida pick in 2025 will most likely be Calgarys own pick which would then be a top 10. I could possibly see Calgary and Ptisburgh swapping their own firsts this year with Calgary adding a 2nd depending on who's available.

You can move conditional picks as long as you have the appropriate condition in the trade. For instance, look at the Rangers trade for Wennberg. They sent back, among other things, a conditional pick. The pick was Dallas' 2025 4th round pick and it would upgrade to Dallas' 2025 3rd round pick if Nils Lundkvist scored 55 cumulative points in 2022-23 and 2023-24. The reason it included the condition is because they acquired the pick from Dallas with those same conditions, so they wouldn't own the pick until this season ends for the outcome to be official (it's all but definitive that it'll be the 4th rounder...Lundkvist has 31 combined points in 106 games so he'd need to suddenly start scoring at over a point per game pace from scoring at a roughly a point every 3 games pace this year and a point every 4 game pace last year).

Yeah for sure, you are right. I just dont know if CGY is willing to risk potentially moving a high pick.

i would not trade holtz for Pettersson straight up let alone throwing in a 1st
Calgary not doing that for that very reason. the 2025 draft is better
SJ would take Smith and a 2nd for a 7th

Well it’s Florida’s pick not their own. I think if the bring her scenario presents itself a team with multiple 1sts could want to get into the top 10.

What would make you think Florida’s 2025 1st will be a high pick? Calgary already lost their own first next year to Montreal, which is a much bigger issue.

27 yr old LD vs a 22 yr old C. They would not trade Holtz for anything last year.

MTL willing likely be getting FLA's 1st based on the conditions, so I doubt CGY would wanna send us their 1st.

I don't get why so many trades have the wild taking old washed up bottom 6 players. We are trying to get younger and use our prospects to prepare for a run in the net 2-5 years. We have no reason to be trading for a guy like Ellers.

So I’m off then because it had seemed to me the view on Holtz was that he may be slipping based off his draft status. Now I don’t blame you for wanting to keep him but I would think of all the forwards you could move for a Dman that fits your need just like Pettersson does he’d have to be at or near the top. I would think he is fair trade bait compared to someone like Mercer. I wouldn’t think Fitzgerald would move him for a Dman.

It seems that C has been a depth problem for some time there. Ek is phenomenal and Rossi should be your 2C. What are the plans then for 3 or 4C?

You have plenty of young Dman though. Your problem has been missing Hamilton of course but where’s the experienced Dman who can slot in and help your team out? Because your defense has been your let down this year.

That Florida pick is tied to the Monahan trade and will almost certainly be the pick going to Montreal because Calgary's pick is top 10 protected (and they will likely have a top 10 pick in 2025). In other words Calgary is essentially trading their top 10 pick from 2025 + Vancouver's 2024 pick for Pittsburgh's 2024 pick, which is a horrible deal

$5m for barely .5 PPG production and a horrendous injury history is vastly over paid. And that’s before we get into the fact his contract has 4 more years, and he’s at best s 3 RW in Arizona.
