Swing for the fences aka downgrading from a 24y old 3/4 RHD with lots of upside to a 30y old 5/6 RHD signed for 7 years at $6.5M who will cost you $5M+ and pay a bunch of good picks and prospects to do it!

Sounds more like you took a massive swing for the fences and ended up hitting yourself in the nuts.

This "offer" does not get you an ESPN subscription to watch Parayko play on TV. What is going on around here today?

Don;t you have an NHL exec job to get back to? Toronto would rip off their own arms to make this glaringly obvious fleece trade. What on Earth, dude? Are you satisfied with being a caricature? I just do not understand what is gained with these antics.

What NHL Exec job lol.. I'm a lawyer for an NHL team not a glorified job.

For those of us who aren't biased Parayko is at best a #4 DFD who is horrible at preventing zone entires which is the #1 way to defend (especially in the playoffs). Considering his contract the only GMs who'd trade from him are the old time guys who don't understand the stats. Wasn't there a rumour last year that the Blues were willing to move him in the O'Reilly trade and Shanahan straight up vetoed it and said he didn't want the player at any price?

With that said, this trade is fair lol, both fan bases think it’s bad. Parayko is what the leafs need for Rielly and in the East. Big strong d man, good in transition with a big shot.

Blues in a rebuild and the risk of the Parakyo contract in the latter years makes this a lot closer than you think. I don’t think it happens because Lily would likely not be moved.

tears of joy

Muh huh. Well, counselor, since you are so educated, since when is 68% percentile "horrible"? Let alone on a team where the forwards love to do no look back passes to no one at their own blue line every night? That's "horrible" in your esteemed judgement? Nothing spun in that claim, huh?

Get serious, man.

I think these trades are pretty slanted towards the Leafs.

-Parayko is a legit top pair defender (you seem to agree based on the lineup you have here.) If the Blues are moving him, I can't see them settling for this package - Toropchenko is arguably worth a 3rd on his own, so it's Lily/Robertson/3rd for Parayko with Brodie in there as cap ballast. I don't think there's anything strong enough here for the Blues to move a guy who's their #1 defender/PKer.

-Timmins hasn't done nearly enough to show that he's worth a 4th rounder, especially not to a team that already has Moritz Seider - Jeff Petry - Shayne Gostisbehere as their RHD depth chart with Justin Holl on hand to cycle in if necessary.

-I think Seeler is this year's Luke Schenn and could get back a 3rd rounder; a late 1st/4th/5th for an early 2nd is a roundabout way to get there but I think it will work. I'd pull the trigger on this if I were the Flyers.

-Jones has been basically average this year - the first time he's hit even that level since 2017-18. I can't see Jersey valuing 20 games this year over 220 games over the previous 5 seasons when valuing this guy.

Entry Denial Rate isn't as important as Possesion Entry Denial Rate and Entry Chance prevention.

Those figures just mean that teams dump and chase more against him than against 68% of other D but when they do skate at him and try to score off the rush he is worse than 76% of defenders at preventing them from crossing the blue line in possession and 87% of defenders at preventing the scoring chance.

Here is another view analytics mode showing how bad he is:

I'm not saying that the blues should waive him. I'm saying that no team should pay to acquire a guy who is a DFD but his team is getting destroyed when he's on the ice.

If he wasn't 31, signed till he was 27 at $6.5M then maybe someone should risk it and see if he can go back to what he was 3 years ago. But there is no way any team should offer more than a 3rd max for him give how bad he is playing and how bad that contract is.

Armstrong needs to decide that either they are worried about Parakyo's performance and dump him or most likely wait it out and see if he turns a corner. I get why Blues fans like him, the stats backup what you like, he is super physical, has scored a lot this year but the underlying numbers say the team is better without him.
