It's come out today that NYR are balking at giving up a 1st rounder for Vatrano. That also included that by no means are NYR trading Kakko in a Vatrano deal. Either there is a bigger reason for Verbeek to have gone to the NYR game (future Zegras deal maybe), or it was just to catch a game and look at potential things for the future.

Personally I had never heard of either of them until I read the article on Sunday. ESPN even had Goodrow going to Anaheim...

I would expect Verbeek to need a very favorable package to justify that much retention and bad cap hit. I'm talking another 1st+ or top prospect like Perreault. ANA isn't NYR and doesn't thrown millions of dollars around freely.

Yeah, Seravelli was ridiculing the Rangers for thinking Kakko held some long term upside potential at this point. Very true. 280+ games and 23 years old. He's a bust at this point so while he is a fine depth winger, he's nothing special and teams won't view him as more than what he has proven in the NHL.

I read this ESPN article and boy do they underestimate how much salary cap dollars cost. You are right in the Goodrow's contract will cost a lot to get rid of (1st and top prospect). Assuming Sykora is considered a top prospect (I wouldn't think so), that ESPN deal boils down to Laba and a 3rd to ANA for Vatrano and Henrique BOTH retained. Oof.

I have to imagine the total deal looks more blockbustery if it were to go down the way ESPN wants it to. It looks like a lot, probably because it is a lot.

Riley Nash (for Lindstrom and to dump a contract)

Gustav Lindstrom (RHD 3rd pair "replacement")
