Why tf would the caps do this? Kuzy has 1 more year left and you think they need to attach a top 15/10th overall pick to dump him? Let alone 2 more 2nds. For Hertl??? This is kinda insane lol

Said it in another thread, Washington shouldn't pay to dump Kuzy when they can just buy him out this summer. Saves them $4M next season with a $2M penalty in 2025-26.

That being said, this is an interesting idea. Hertl's age/term is out of sync with San Jose's eventual rebuild but I could see it having purchase on a Caps team that is basically going to be trying to put all of its chips in as long as Ovi is still skating. I think he's worth a 1st and a pair of 2nds if they wanted to move him, and I think San Jose could take back Kuzy in that case just to make the cap work for next year.

Bit surprised by the comments above, as I actually think the Caps are getting a good deal here. Not sure if Hertl elevates them back to contender status, but he sure as heck makes them a lot better.
