I dont think the oilers would give up a prospect for Carrier. I also see it as basically a lateral move to Ceci. is he a bit better maybe. I think if the oilers upgrade a D it has to be a clear and significant upgrade much like Ekholm was on Barrie last year if not I dont see them making a move.

One year of Saros wouldn’t be worth it for us, even if we were sending Mercer alone. Devils decline.

(Fitzy already told Trotz no on Saros for 2 years)

Agreed but this is in the offseason so it would be essentially a sign and trade. Or more literally a trade, wait a week and sign the extension that you agreed to before the trade.

There smoke between the two teams. It's either Carrier or Novak. And I dont see us just giving either one up for a middle round draft pick.

Not a real thing that meaningfully increases value, just something people on cap friendly pretend exists so they can convince themselves their rentals aren't rentals

        Okay, sounds good.

So what would be the deal without Mercer?

Replace him with Holtz. Or yall can somehow run it back and not be in playoff contention despite the fact that you have Hugher/Hischier as your 1C/2C lol. Yall act so tough on here about not overpaying but you are wasting years off both their deals and Bratt's every time yall miss playoffs right now.

        It’s not a tough act.

Our window is just opening. They were youngest team in decade to win a playoff round last year. If they made playoffs, would still be youngest team in playoffs. We are not selling core pieces for a any rentals.

People like this would have been questioning why Tampa didn’t sell Brayden point after missing the playoffs in 2017

And you would have had Tampa go all in with Ben bishop and trade Vasy for a win now piece when they missed the playoffs in 16-17. Instead they traded away Bishop and kept Vasy.

Just for some perspective, Vasy had -19 GSAx in the 2 years prior to that trade in 74 starts. Vitek has +3 GSAx in the last 2 years in 84 starts

well first of all a 2nd round pick isn't considered a middle round pick still considered high. 3/4 is usually considered middle. and that is all carrier is really worth. tanev who is better only got a second and dallas 10th best prospect.... and a conditional pick at 50% retained.. carrier is not getting more.

        novak I could see getting a 2nd + something a little more.

I understand the piece about trading young talent before the blossom, but I'm not sure you understand that your point also hinges on believing that Mercer is the next Point and Vitek is the next Vasy. I hope you realize how crazy that sounds. Any GM in the league using the logic would be a disgrace.

That's not what I said at all.

Mercer is currently a very valuable asset to our current roster because he's a quality cost controlled roster player. His upside could also be fantastic.

If you told people Point would have become point, with worse production and less draft pedigree than mercer has. They'd have called you crazy

Vasy struggled early in his career. They trusted him to figure it out.
