All honesty I think dallas if they don’t get the cup this year really could make a deal work. They’ve got prospects and picks with Wyatt Johnston as a roster player to make it work

The values here are kinda all over the place. For the caps trade, I think it’s a fair ask, but it’s a lot and I don’t know that the caps would do it. I don’t know if the Canucks would do it, either.

I mean, I disagree, there's lots of players worth 3 firsts... depending on where those 1sts are. I doubt the Canucks would accept the 30th, 31st, and 32nd overall for EP40. That being said though, the most recent 5th oa, a top 10 pick, and another mid 1st pick is a looooooooooot.

Here's a fun fact I just talked to my Canadiens friend about: Elias Pettersson is on pace for his second straight 100 pt season. The last Montreal Canadien to score 100 pts in a season was Mats Naslund in 1985-86, almost forty years ago.

I imagine almost every fanbase reading this is thinking the exact same thing, for what its worth. I would say that Dallas and St. Louis are giving up as much or more than Buffalo.

Pretty comical. But the Rangers offer would be like Mika + 2nd + Sykora.

I’m not a VAN fan,
but I’m pretty sure they’d find your offer “pretty comical”

Sabres wouldn’t be interested in Pettersson imo
Great player, but his next contract is gonna have a Cap hit about double of Cozens
Adding him- IF he’d even sign with us- would screw with our Cap Structure too much imo

I’d love to get him, just don’t think it’s a realistic option

Can't tell if you're underrating Mika's value or overrating Peteys but the difference between a 90 point player and a 100 point player making 4mil more every year with leverage for where he's willing to sign long term is not huge.

Maybe a bit of both to be honest
BUT
u seem to be forgetting that Zibanejad is about to turn 31 and Pettersson is only 25

That 6 years represents a HUGE amount of value imo- A LOT more than Sykora & a 2nd

If u don’t think being 25 has a lot more value than being 31 then u just don’t have ANY common sense

Oh I think being 25 has a lot more value than being 31. Whether that value is worth significantly more than 4mil annual cap hit difference is another story. Based on market value/trade history, a 6mil cap savings cost teams about a 1st. So over about 6 years, and 24 mil that's about 4 1sts...
Now whether the regression due to age at the end of each contract is worth the difference of 4 1sts is an interesting discussion. Then we're looking into aging curves based on player types (being 35+ hasn't affected Giroux/Marchand/Crosby/etc much). So on and so forth. It's a very layered discussion.

The only thing arguing is if it’s worth “a lot” or “A LOT”
REGARDLESS,
it’s worth a hell of a lot more than Sykora & a 2nd
That’s NOT arguable
