That’s too underwhelming of a return to justify trading him within the division. Also, he can get more than 8 million aav.

Too long a deal for Guentzel. He's already 29 and the Canes don't like signing players into their mid to late 30s at high cap hits. Plus, we don't need more wingers. Plus, Raanta's almost back healthy, stuffing him on LTIR doesn't work.

My man called Morrow a no name player like he isn't breaking college records at UMass... you know, Cale Makar's NCAA records. This might not be enough, but if you think Morrow is a no name and this needs Pesce or Necas, you're even further off base than the OP

Guentzel wouldn’t get that extension from Carolina

And his rental price will too high for Carolina too.

Pitt’s fans should lower the expectations of a rental too. Its a 1st and a B prospect. Those are rental prices. No JG isn’t some special case

He's not showing offensive production increases from one year to the next which is troubling. Moreover, he's a RD so even if he is very good, he's not getting more than 12 minutes a game with Letang and Karlsson on roster.

But he is lol How many, even as rentals, players have been traded in their prime at the deadline who were better or on par with Guentzel (key is in their prime not 34 year old Kanes or even Guroux was 36 and look what those deals brought back anyways). Look at what Hossa brought who is similar as a ppg player, 40+ goal scorer (guaranteed 35-40 every single year for Guentzel) over such a large sample size except Hossa when traded was underwhelming in the playoffs (.5 ppg in half as many games) unlike Guentzel who's 1 of 11 active players averaging a ppg in the playoffs. Guentzel has 34 goals and 24 assists in 58 playoff games, which is .6 goals/game (good for 9th ALL TIME). Since Guentzels rookie year he's 9th in the nhl in 5 v 5 goals and 18th in goals total. There's 5 active players with more 40+ goal seasons and the list of 35+ goal scorers is pretty small too. You're trading for, in his prime, a top 10-15 winger in the league with a large sample of high performance in the playoffs. He IS a special case, this isnt Tarasenko at 32 who still brought a good package last year anyways. Guentzels stats, advanced metrics, its all elite, and hes having either his best or at least a top 2 or 3 season this year for him. Either you're severely undervaluing Guentzel or I'm failing to recall similar players of his ilk being traded in their primes and if that's the case give me some examples but I'm pretty confident it's a short list, particularly with his proven playoff pedigree...

He's 2nd in school production, only to Makar and that he should get next year if he opts for a senior year. Morrow also has broken his primary points record, shots record, and even blocks. But, you spout off your ignorance. Morrow isn't Makar, but he's a BRILLIANT prospect

When was the hossa trade again? We’ll see on the return. It’s either the 1st, distressed winger player, and a prospect or just a 1st and B prospect. That us the market for a rental.

In the Hossa trade actually the throw in worked well for us too, a man by the name of Pascal Dupuis lol Well see I think the asking price is fair. I honestly wish we'd just resign him bc we can't replace him and as long as it's a 6 year or shorter I think even if we trade him 3-4 years from now and retain then we get the 1st and b prospect return still, at least imo we do. But who knows I'd give him 10 million aav no doubt but maybe he wants the full term or maybe he wants to test free agency or maybe it's our philosophy but it certainly doesn't seem like him resigning is in the tea leaves....

Pittsburgh should try to retain a little on Graves / accairi to move them while trying to move smith and/or rakell too over moving JG. Jg has to sign though

College success has no bearing on NHL success. Makar is the exception, not the rule. For every Cale Makar, there's a Jimmy Vesey.

At what point can we look at Guentzel's NCAA career here? Or Zegras, Fox, Swayman, Eichel... the NCAA doesn't have a "rule" on player development, and is as likely to produce good talents right now as the Canadian junior leagues...
