tbh it seems to me that the Flames want players 23-27 who can play in the lineup now so I know Bahl can but I'm not so sure they accept. I'm not too familiar on his game tho. Maybe I'm a bit delusional lol. Like I know Mercer is probably untouchable but he's the exact type of player they are looking for. I'm not saying "oh that should be the trade". But that's kinda the type of guy they are looking at.

I am not a Devils fan, quite the opposite, but their game yesterday was pathetic... They need HELP.
The Hanafin trade was based off of the Tarasenko trade the Rangers did last season.
Middle/Bottom pair player...
B tier prospect

That's fair. I'd like to know a bit more about Bahl before I say oh yeah Flames accept but that's more of a me issue. Hanafin is a top 4 guy, I wouldn't say bottom pair.

I’d prefer less to NSH and no retention…our cap situation should be okay for this year and next. It’s 2025-26 when Luke gets his raise where things may get tight. So maybe without Lenni or 1st.

Bahl is big fella, 6’6” 240 lbs or so. Is good defensively, can break things up in d-zone. Long reach, quick with stick. Mobility, for his size, is pretty good, not a weakness, but is not leading rushes very often. Shot from point is hard…and can get in net…but it’s not a quick release. Guys can step in front of it. Physicality is inconsistent…occasionally will run over guys…often big guys too…but doesn’t seem to have developed the ‘beast-on-demand’ yet where he can dial it up depending on game situation. Although that is improving. His weakness is his puck movement…have seen too many passes in the skates this year. He has some good stretches, like end of last season, and in parts this year, where he has found more of a rhythm. If he works that out, he could be middle pair defensive option. Right now, he is more of a 3rd pair guy.

A lot to give up for a rental Hanifan and Saros who aren't going to change the fortunes of the Devils this season.
Then the Devils would have Saros for one year.

In that case, I would probably take out Lenni

Saros would most likely stick around... Hanifin would most likely come in with an extension in place

You're not getting Saros anymore without a package like this. He's proven he's a stellar goaltender playing behind a terrible defense. Not to mention at this point the Predators have a better chance of making the playoffs then NJ. So you're paying a premium to get anyone out of Nashville.

Hameenaho isn't the prospect Nashville would ask for either on top of Holtz. It'd be Casey.

I would have thought that Casey is 100% untouchable for NJ...
Hämeenaho would be a great pair with Kemell

I'd have a hard time thinking he's untouchable when they have 3 RD signed for the next 3 years, so him finding a spot in the lineup is going to be a little hard. It'd make more sense to trade him when he has high value and isn't an impact on their roster.

Honestly my first thought was the same thing, but Nashville needs dmen more than wingers.

Didn't say it was going to happen, just said that's what it would take. And just because historically something has been the norm, doesn't mean it won't ever happen.

Why would Saros stick around? Certainly the Devils won't be offering him eight year.
Extensions rarely happen.
Really it's a waste of good young assets, basing a trade on hoping a guys will sign. Just sign a UFA and keep your picks.

My guess is that the conversation between Trotz and Fitzgerald is around Holtz-for-Saros swap, just like with Markstrom.

There has been less reported about the particulars of their discussions, we just know they are talking.

I'm sure they talk frequently, they're friends outside of being opposing GMs. But yeah Holtz is the main piece for sure. I'm sure the details are around what else Trotz can get, money retained, or money coming back in the deal. We know how much Trotz wanted from LA last year so I'm sure he hasn't changed what he's wanted that much. I think he's trying to get as much as he can for Saros until he's satisfied, otherwise he'll deal him at the draft or in the offseason

My $$ on timing is after draft, after July 1st...so not only can Trotz discuss extension...but he could allow other teams too as well (raising the price)

I also believe, just a hunch, that Fitzy first made Holtz available to Nashville....and the offer to Calgary was backup option. It was just that Holtz-for-Markstrom link was leaked sooner. Brunette was very high on Holtz last year and worked with him a lot. They had a bond. There was a long stretch where Holtz was a healthy scratch for us...and everyone kept asking. "why isn't Holtz getting sent down?" Brunette felt working with him one-on-one, reviewing tape, traveling with team...was better for his development than sending back to AHL, where he had proved everything he can there.
