I would argue that the Leafs have been needing a guy like Ferraro. Skill set is not elite but effort is 110% every night. Tons of energy and passion. To top it off, he has a decent AAV

He’s just a poor man’s McCabe. We’d be paying a 1st and Niemela for Ferraro to play on the third pairing and not contribute much. If we’re gonna keep spending our firsts, they need to be for game changers. Players that will actually get us into the finals.

Leafs (and most teams) have plenty of LHD in their organization Ferraro certainly doesn't move the needle to waste two young assets (of few the Leafs have)

For every Sharks fan ACGM having him for a first (which is what Grier implied minimum would need to move him not his actual value), I see 10 Toronto/other teams fan ACGMs pricing him at a first +. So pretty irrelevant statement.
