Devils won't give up that much, Flames shouldn't accept less. There's no reason for Calgary to move Markstrom without serious incentive.

I don’t think tanev gets that probably the Manson deal but in this trade economy it’s possible

We’ll see. 2nd and a solid prospect is what I’m guessing tanev goes for which for a rental is a pretty solid return. From what Friedman said that won’t be a problem for the flames to get

The reports initially said Holtz/First/+

Marky isn't getting moved unless its a whopper of an offer like this.

If it isn't a first from the Leafs, then the Flames will get it somewhere else. Go look at the last 8-10 deadline rental dmen, always a first + more, Tanev is a hell of a player for a cup contender.

I think Calgary would prefer Mercer given the glut at wing. I also don't see NJ giving up Mercer so Markstrom may be a summer move. Teams like Buffalo and Ottawa have a ton of center prospects and should be playoff teams if it wasn't for their D and goaltending.

I have never seen Holtz plus 1st…do you recall where you have seen that?

LeBrun, Seravalli, Friedman…a number of them have said Holtz for Markstrom, plus cost of retention not agreed upon. Pagnotta said, yesterday, I believe that it was “a piece or two” and that the last offer removed Vanecek, who Calgary said they did not want. Devils wanted $2m in retention.

1: Holtz for Markstrom (tbd retention/cap move)
2: Holtz/Vanecek for Markstrom
3: Holtz/pick for Markstrom (at $4m)

A total guess…is that they had initially agreed upon something like #1. Devils GM may have offered #2, to which Conroy said he didn’t want Vanecek. So Fitzy came back with #3.

If you have seen anything different, point me in right direction.

Can you recall where you saw that? I have been looking for it since a Flames fan mentioned the other day, but cannot find.

Mercer, Nemec, Luke…probably not options here.

Multiple places have said Holtz is the guy Conroy wants.

(And to be clear…most Devils fans don’t want Holtz to go anywhere).

No, multiple mock trades have had Holtz because one rumour suggested it. Just like Tanev and the leafs or Hanifin and Boston. If anything is certain, it is that the deals are always different than "insiders" suggest.

And they generally follow historical comps. Which isn’t ideal for flames fans

A lot of people have mentioned CGY interest in Holtz. I have not seen Mercer anywhere linked to this.

(And Holtz alone would be a good get for any goalie).

Calgary has a ton of wingers, so it doesn't make sense. Who is moving to the 4th line? Our leading scorer is already on our 3rd line. We have Pelletier, Coronato, and Honzek- in the pipeline which are all wingers as well. There are no NHL calibre prospects in the system.

Huberdeau - Sharengovich - Kuzmenko
Zary - Kadri - pospisil
Mangiapane -Backlund - Coleman
Walker - Rooney - Hunt

Just like Josh Anderson to the flames for a first? That rumour took 3 years to die. Lindholm's trade was higher than the comparable given his year Vs Horvats season. Tanner Jeannot had no comparable whatsoever.

90 % of insider trades are wrong. If Holtz is in the deal, it is because that's what NJ was willing to give, not because it was an ideal fit.

You're missing the point: the only people who slot down on the flames are waiver eligible, or one of decent wingers goes to the fourth line.

Considering NJ's abysmal goaltending this year, you have a greater need for a good goalie than Calgary does for another winger. It has nothing to do with Holtz as a player.
