I think Isles can get *some* positive value out of Pageau if they retain him down to $2.5M - 2 years at that cap hit for a solid 3C with a knack for performing in the playoffs feels like something worth a return. I'd rather do that, honestly - if taking back Rutta's $2.75M cap hit just to unload JGP's $5M for 2024-25 costs a 2nd, why wouldn't the Isles just eat that $2.5M and keep the pick? Actually saves more money in 2024-25 and instead of paying a 2nd rounder they have a chance to bring back a positive asset. The $2.5M dead cap in 2025-26 isn't a problem if the cap predictably rises to $92M - they'll have at least $30M in cap space that year with good chunk of their core signed on already.
