What's cap space?

Before you panic, the contracts of Rick Nash, Michael Grabner, David Desharnais, Ondrej Pavelec, and Nick Holden will be off the books after 2017/18 season, which will free up $13.4M to sign JT Miller, Jimmy Vesey, and Brady Skjel to new deals (and maybe Matt Puempel, contingent on his performance). If no to Puempel, then it's gonna be $14.125M plus/minus league cap changes, trades, etc.

    I was almost going to go along with it, though I agree with ALWAYSNEXTYEAR that Edmonton will match until they can't match any more, which is probably $9.5M or so. But you only have 20 players on your roster and a looming catastrophe a year from now when the NYR have $19M to sign 12 players, as well as extensions for Zuccarello and McDonagh.
