Even if they’re top 10 protected? This guy is NHL ready and could be in their lineup today if they wanted him there. Considering 70% of first rounders outside the top ten never play 100 games in the nhl, two first rounders isn’t unreasonable

My point remains. Cowan is a lock to be a top6 forward in the nhl and potential superstar. Plus they call him cowboy for christ sake - how is there not a deal to bring him to the saddledome?

Also, are you assuming Tanev is worth a 1st? That’s a stretch

1 - No, I'm not saying I think Tanev is worth a 1st, I'm saying Calgary is going to ask for a 1st for Tanev retained.

2 - A "lock" to be top 6 and potential superstar? Ehh... where'd you get that idea?

Not a lot of 18 yr old players get selected for canadas under 20 team. And not a lot of players make an nhl roster before the age of 20 (think you could see him called up during the playoffs this year). He’s also leading the OHL in ppg. None of this is exciting to you eh?

Did you change it to a 3rd? I thought it was a 6th and 7th? Maybe that's what I was basing it on a different AGM... a 3rd at 50% might get it done, a 3rd and a 5th for sure would.

I never said he's not an exciting prospect. A "lock" to be top 6 and potential superstar is laying it on rather thick. Starring in the OHL does not automatically mean can't miss star prospect. Remember Jeremy Bracco?

Cowan is a very good prospect, but let's not get crazy.

This particular ACGM has been a 3rd all along. But there was a Johnson to Tampa ACGM that had the return as a 6th and 7th.

Ha. No. Without retention probably a 4th. If less than that Hawks just keep him. But most likely Johnson gets moved half retained for a 3rd. Just a matter of where.

Yes, a 6th and a 7th isn't enough. Hawks wouldn't take that for Johnson. If that's the best offer, they just keep him and let him walk as a UFA. I highly doubt the Hawks don't receive a better offer though. Especially since they'd be willing to retain half on him.
