Description
It's very likely going to be Ken Holland's last season as Oilers GM.
He hasn't gotten many solid hits drafting in EDM.
I believe his TDL will heavily rely on his ability to move his own drafted prospects.

-Campbell is an albatross, no one wants that contract and EDM can't afford to dump him. Maybe he makes an appearance this season but why bother? Re-evaluate him in the summer. Buy him out if necessary.
-Moving Broberg will be a mistake in the long run but he's Holland's best prospect not named Holloway(who should be a keeper).
-EDM loses the bid for Tanev. Keeps Ceci. D pairing shake up works.
-Piggybacking off Jason Gregor- Bring in Dowd/Malenstyn as a shutdown depth duo.
-Assuming NJD remains out of a playoff spot Toffoli would be a great add to the top 6 & Miller a depth RD. NJD could re-acquire Toffoli in free agency.

3 RFAs - 2 former 1st rounders & a former 2nd rounder for 2 rentals you can acquire again in free agency... What's your price?

Depends what the bidding gets to.

Lavoie passed through waivers this year-wouldn't value him much at all
Broberg-2nd rounder, although I know some are quite high on him within the fanbase
Bourgault-not particularly high on him, would pay a 3rd or so but I wouldn't be shocked if someone else was higher on him. I'm just not

1st+Broberg for the pair depending on what other bids are. And NJD would pay a 3rd team to retain on Toffoli on our behalf.

Avoiding the rollover cap next year is a priority if we can.

Broberg would be appealing, I think…maybe Kemp or Wanner. Depth on defense is both short term and longer term need for us.

But I think the offer looks more than fair for Devils side.

Rollover cap? Both guys are UFAs this summer & NJD has plenty of cap space.

NJD is currently using LTIR.

Nemec, Mercer, Holtz, and Luke Hughes are expected to earn 2+ mill in performance bonuses. If we do not accrue enough space to pay for it (and you cannot accrue space while using LTIR), then it will rollover to next year.

Once we get healthy we should get to about 1.5 mill to start accruing with. If toffoli gets shipped out with retention that retention costs us about 750k on next years cap.

Gotcha! Never thought of bonuses.

Most ELC bonuses are minimal and not earned. Most of the teams with a ton of highly drafted ELCs aren't close to the cap ceiling.

Very rare you'll see ELC bonuses add up like this.

Broberg will figure it out. I'd rather keep him and move Kulak in the summer but given the cost of acquisition, stories of a trade request and Holland having very little runway I feel like he's on the move.

What someone was drafted isn't as important as to what they are now. If they aren't really making a run at a roster now, and as stated before one already going through waivers, I'd rather focus on picks the Devils could use to draft someone else.

Broberg is def making a run, he's just being blocked by Kulak. Bourgault needs more time. Lavoie, since clearing waivers, has been improving and playing fine.
I feel like the value is fair for 2 rentals.

I get the idea of feeling it is fair, not say it isn't, more so saying it's probably not something the Devils would best off doing. Rather quality than quantity. They'd be better off with another pick to draft a center.

I guess if NJD has their eye on someone late in the 1st round. Holland will be outbid if that's the case.
