Sigh people just don't understand. He's not the run of the mill 4th liner. He's an elite defensive bottom 6 center playing against other teams top players and shutting them down, while making peanuts this and next season. Plus there's reports that 1) many teams will be all over him driving up the price and 2) that price will be a 1st most likely.
when was the last time a 4th liner got a 1st at the deadline?

SM get 50% of his points on the power play. He’s also not great 200 feet or 5v5
Dowd plays a great 200 ft game has like 5 less 5v5 points and is considered a top 10 defensive forward. Hes also deployed a lot in the D zone. AND HES SIGNED for 1.3m for another year.
More than box scores matter. Coleman was like a 35 point player and look what he got. Goodrow career high was like 17 points lol.
Seqan Monahan plays top 6 minutes. dowd plays bottom 6 minutes.
no one is adding dowd to be a 2nd liner. many teams will be interested in adding him as a 4th liner and instead of only getting a 4th or a 3rd im pretty sure he will command more given his contract.
dowd is a good bottom 6 defensive player, almost 50% in the face off dot, and there is cost certainty.
however "elite defensive bottom 6 centre" is an oxy moron. if he was elite then he would play in the top 6. simple as.
imo a 2nd a prospect is a fair return and well above normal market value for a 4th liner
