Description
I believe the prices I've put below are pretty standard. MTL only has 1 retention spot left for this year, and two for next year (They are still retaining on Petry). I think it's generally agreed upon that retaining on any of these players would garner a better return.

Retaining on Pearson wouldn't really generate that much extra imo. Maybe bumping the 5th to a 4th?

Retaining on Allen is a bigger debate in terms of what return he could get, simply because Hughes has stated that he isn't selling low on Allen and has no problem keeping him. My guess Allen stays and is traded in the offseason.

Retaining on Savard I believe is the most likely scenario and is the most realistic to get a better return. I believe Kent Hughes is also looking at Savard's previous trade history where a 3rd team is involved to retain even further to get a deal done. I think it's no coincidence that after trading Monahan, Hughes went on to explain why he didn't want to retain on him and that the last retention slot could be better used elsewhere, and then follow that up with talking about how Savard is "not being shopped", but would listen to offers...

Other Darkhorse trade candidates for this trade deadline:

Ylonen: This guy seriously needs to be given more playing time. but for whatever doesn't seem to fit in with coach St.Louis' system. It's too bad, has all the tools to be a top 6 forward and underlying numbers are solid.

Harris: Obvious man out on the D-core, still has solid upside to be a top 4 two-way Dman. Would be moved to make room for Hutson when he finishes his NCAA season.

They put Pearson in the bumper on PP1 to try and boost his value. I guess maybe him... maybe, if he can put up some points.

Pearson on PP1... I wanna cry!

There's only so much that can be done to try and boost someone's value. Even if Pearson goes on a heater from now until trade deadline, it really won't change much imo.

Personally, I'd go back to a 2 dman set up and give Guhle some PP time and move Slaf to in front of the net / bumper position (it's not like Matheson passes to him on the wing anyway...)
