Description

If JT is now a 60 point player, would you rather pay him 11m next year or 3.5m not to play (hypothetically a 6m 2C next year would make 9.5m by adding the JT retention for 1 season) ? Fill out 2C in the off-season, find a better fit for a playoff run that can slide down to 3C next year (Laughton or Jenner type player??).

Would JT waive for a great chance at a cup in Colorado? Would leafs benefit? Would Colorado be willing to pay JT roughly 4M to be a 2C?

Toronto isn't just going to be able to find a 2C replacement so easily, but even if they did that player will cost 8-9M, so with the retention on JT that would be effectively paying them 11.5-12.5M. That said player might get 10 or 20 more points or the similar to JT, so it's not worth it.

Which is, needless to say, not going to happen for one year and spare change of an aging Tavares, even with that much retention. Again, not a fit and not worth the price.

Still haven't seen a proposal for Byram that fits the Avs needs and cap situation. Probably because that doesn't exist.
