Of all the players on both NYI and CBJ that the Jets could be interested in, two Dmen in their first year of long-term contracts that end in their mid-30s aren't the ones I was expecting to see you go after. Even if you assume the Jets only keep 2 of DeMelo, Dillon, Stanley, and Schmidt next year, they still have 6 NHL-ready D. There is also Salomonsson who will prob be ready in a couple years.

They also both have NTCs and would need to waive them. I know Severson is from Manitoba, but I don't think that's the pull-factor that hometown fans sometimes think it is (especially for us). Mayfield doesn't really have any connection to the Jets organization, so it's unlikely he'd want to move here for 6 years.

What about Brock Nelson at the TDL?

CBJ traded a 3rd for Severson to appease Babcock. I say he can be had for a 2nd

Unless Jiricek demands a trade, he's not available. Even then, this isn't Gauthier where he gets UFA in a few years - he's signed under contract and subject to CBJ's whim until he's 27 if he so chooses.

Brock Nelson is extremely unlikely to be traded. Maybe if the wheels completely fall off before the deadline, Lou would consider it, but It would probably have to be considerably more than the typical young-roster player-top prospect-first round pick package we usually see for big names at the deadline since 1) Lou is all in with a win now team and moving Nelson doesn't help that in the short term, and 2) Nelson has another year under contract at a very reasonable AAV for his production which costs extra over typical rental prices.

He can choose to not sign as an rfa that would really tank his value

Cool. Have fun playing in Europe.

Or CBJ can make the overdue move and just fire Jarmo.

We're talking 2.5 years down the line when the solution, explicitly stated by the player, is to just play him. This isn't a diva wanting out like Dubois, it's a competitive NHLer who knows he deserves to be in the NHL over Peeke and Gudbranson. It's really not that hard to fix. He's not available, even if he requests a trade for some reason.

I’m just guessing here, and CBJ fans can feel free to correct me if I’m off, but I’m thinking Jiricek to WPG isn’t even an option if he does become available.
Jackets would likely want a high end D prospect or ELC player in return, which WPG doesn’t currently have. Best we could offer would be 1st + McGroarty + Heinola and I don’t think that would work for Columbus.
If, by some miracle, Jiricek becomes available, the Jets will be spectators in the auction for him…not participants
