Description
I freely admit that this post makes 2 very unlikely assumptions

#1 Habs can convince Reinhart that MTL is the place...
#2 NYI go scorched earth in a rebuild

Does this team make the playoffs though?

I don't see them selling Bedard. 🙄

It's the same argument about age range though. Say they start in 2024-25 (25 years old) and draft a few guys in the top 5 during an incredible draft. Those guys are maybe up and running at full speed in the NHL by 2028-29 (I mean really kicking butt at a 200-ft game like Bedard will in a few years). Dobson is 28-29. Yeah he's good, but for how many more years?

Also, how do you tank that badly in 2024-25 with Dobson kicking butt every night?

28-29 are usually elite defenseman's best years.

What are we even talking about? 🤣

Dobson is 1 player.

If the Isles are tanking it's not going to make much of a difference.

There's no way to post a criticism of the trade because it's so unrealistic. If you listed every Islander player in order from most likely to be traded to least likely to be traded, Dobson is the last player on the bottom of that list and it's not close.

It's a hypothetical site though, trading Dobson is as unlikely as the Habs trading their 2024 1st round pick for him. What if that pick becomes Celebrini? Then the Habs are giving up way more than Dobson is worth.

It's supposed to be a fun site, why just put people down and say the obvious that it's unrealistic? Why not try to have constructive criticism and actually engage in a fun conversation

Even if the Isles do end up deciding to rebuild (they won't), Dobson is the main guy to build around, there's no realistic scenario where he gets moved

It's not impossible that the Isles decide to tear it down and rebuild. They are deeply in the mushy middle. Maybe Lou steps away and the new GM sells a vision of drafting James Hagen's & Michael Misa in 2025. Hell of a way to kickoff a rebuild!

even if they do tear it down, dobson probably stays as he is 24. Doesn't make sense even in that context.
