Hanifan is going to cost you Lohrei. Flames need NHL ready prospects. With an extension in place for Hanifan he's expendable anyways.

If he does, that’s great for Calgary and Boston evaluates at free agency. Not very appealing free agent is going to resign no matter how much that mantra is mentioned.

From my perspective, I view some of that as noise trying to create leverage. I’m pretty comfortable that CCA has a high level understanding of what teams are willing to offer and teams have a high level understanding of what he is going to want.

If Hanifn chooses security and status quo with a team that’s struggled, has poor facilities, and is in a market that isn’t one of the more appealing ones; that is 100% understandable. I’m assuming none of us know him enough to know what is going to drive this decision.

He is roughly 6 months away from likely being able to make similar money in his hometown for a team that’s won more regular season games than anyone in the past two years for a player friendly coach with great facilities.

I like our chances here, but things change. I’m not attached to one player, but I’m pretty comfortable if Boston stands pat that they will get a very good player with their funds.

According to Serevalli the Flames are guaranteed to be selling at the deadline. If that doesn’t include Hanifin I’ll be surprised, especially because of the losing streak and Hanifins solid play during it.

Serevalli is also the same guy who said the flames were looking to extend Hanifan.

True, but this one’s newer, and Hanifin has been rumoured to be extended since mid November so idk if he will be

Wether he signs with the Flames or not I don't think Hanifan is going to free agency. Apparently he's willing to agree to a sign and trade, and there are rumors about Arizona, Detroit and Nashville.

He said it in the exact same interview he said they were going to be sellers last week.

Every team says that’s the case and generally rejects the trading team having discussions before the trade for that specific reason

Most players make it to free agency unless they sign with their team they started the year with. If he doesn’t, good for him.

I still think Grz, Lohrei, a second level prospect, and a second round pick for Hanifin with 775k of retention is a fair offer. If it takes more, I’ll take my chances. Boston has a very appealing situation for a pending free agent to walk into and my guess is Hanifin knows this so someone is going to have to buy him out of free agency

The only reason I flag it with him is the reports that a lot of GM’s believe him to Boston is an inevitability.

ya but conroy has expressed that he only wants players that want to play on the team next year. with that there has been negotiations and if he would've made up his mind hed had already asked for a trade like nikita. but both parties are willing to make an agreement, and its in hanifins best interest to get paid!

But is it in Conroys best interests to sign him? Assume we enter a re-tool, Hanifin could bring back valuable pieces, that could speed up the retool.

conroys best interest is to retain players that want to play with the flames long term. Hani has a deadline of his own to report to the flames and if hasnt extended by than id imagine hes dealt
