Raanta doesn’t convey a ton of confidence, but either does Ned. Canes have had a front row seat to it already. No need to pay assets and a goalie for a nominal upgrade.

I would argue that for the same contract, just moving the deck chairs around and having Ned vs Raanta isn’t increasing positive outcomes for goal tending in the playoffs. Both goalies have similar playoff numbers, and Ned’s sample is much smaller with only the one year in Carolina. Why pay a 2nd and 4th for that?

Either make a bigger deal for a better goalie, or just play it out and see what happens.

Which better goalie do you want to go after than Nedeljkovic? Saros? Lindgren?

For the Canes system, I think Markstrom or Gibson (if he can regain confidence) would be the best targets. Lindgren and MAF to a lesser extent. I think Saros is a bit overrated and the Canes prefer a bigger Goalie, and also they are cheap . That why none of these guys are traded for.

I don't see Don being too thrilled with the idea of taking on a $6m cap hit for a goalie especially when we have a bunch of important RFAs and UFAs to sign.

Leafs will need reaves when it comes to playoffs and his cap hit is easily bury-able, leafs also have no interest in graves you can keep him

Agreed, when compared to sending zero cap the other way. There are plenty of ways to make it work. Again, not saying they will or should…$6m for a goalie who makes a difference is cheap as long as you don’t spend $3.4m on Freddie, $2m on Pyotr and take on another $6m
