Description
I’m not doing any assets or anything in these moves, just trying to reimagine what the pens could’ve looked like had JR gotten the go ahead to move Geno or Letang. The denial of that was reportedly a big reason for him stepping down. Some guys I’ve kept here are cause they’re role players and I don’t wanna speculate too much there, but also I think Eller and Acciarri are very much JR type signings
Transactions

PIT
LAK
  1. Carter, Jeff
Détails additionnels:
Not the kind of guy/contract I see JR bringing in
2.
PIT
Again just removing him from the team since I think JR makes a trade for a LHD earlier
    3.
    PIT
    1. Reinhart, Sam
    Détails additionnels:
Idk what the assets would’ve been to get a deal going that sent Malkin to a team wanting a super star in 2021, and Sam to Pitt but it’s something I legit could’ve seen happening back then. JR reportedly wanted to move Geno or Letang and I could’ve seen Geno being the one to go, but a replacement would’ve had to be brought in and a guy like Reinhart was available at the time.
    4.
    VAN
    1. Karlsson, Erik
    Détails additionnels:
While I wouldn’t put the big trade for EK past JR, I think he’d have made a move sooner since I don’t think he brings in Petry, Hronek is a guy he liked and there was rumblings of that in Pitt b4 he brought him to the Nuks, I don’t think he lets Teddy leave Pitt either. Now since we don’t have the big EK trade, I think a big trade JR makes is bringing in Miller or Boeser when they were on the block for the Nuks, I’m doing Boeser here because his price was much lower at the time plus I think JR would see him as that Kessel like player for this team
    5.
    PIT
    1. Trocheck, Vincent
    Détails additionnels:
A guy I think JR would heavily target to fill in the 2C role when he became a FA, with no Malkin and I’d presume Reinhart not playing to par as the 2C, they sign him and move Reinhart to wing
    NYR
    6.
    PIT
The way the timeline is going, it seems to me that it would’ve been either a Rakell trade or Rust resigning, JR was also interested in Rak when he was in Pitt but I’d see him resigning Rust over trading for him, even if I think the right move is the other way around
      7.
      VAN
The kind of big guy JR loved to bring in, could’ve seen him as a signing for the pens when he was a FA as well, would’ve fit a need for them, same with Soucy, who’d have been a cheap target for the bottom six. It’s no coincidence I am stealing many Van players and guys that were known JR guys
        8.
        PIT
        1. Zucker, Jason (800 000 $ retained)
        ARI
        1. Smith, Reilly
        Détails additionnels:
I see no way JR let’s a guy he loves in Zucker walk, although I think he signs for less than he got from Ari, but for much more term

Tbh, idk that it’s so much better, I think Zucker and smith are pretty equal, no Geno or EK hurts the star power and offense tbh, but the team is more balanced and has depth so idk

What’s the no here? I’m not doing assets or anything, it’s all purely speculation on what I think the team could look like if GMJR was still the GM, and there was a time everyone thought Boeser was for sure gone and I’d have thought JR would jump on that if he was pens GM at the time

Canes fans laughed wildly when NYR signed Trochek to that deal. Said it was too much $. Don’t know if JR would have spent that coin. Then all season last year 31 fan bases criticized the contract no different than when kreider signed. But he did want to stay in the metro so it could have happened

JR just feels like a guy that signs the guys that just seem like he would, ya know? Like he signs awful deals too, but with no Geno in this thought experiment, feels like his pivot would be Trocheck, the Pittsburgh kid
