Hell no to that Hertl trade

Sharks decline. We're not retaining for 7 years of Hertl. 🙄

The cap dump value is probably fine, but you'd need another team just because 1) the Jackets don't historically field cap dumps (internal cap?), and 2) we probably don't want a RyJo reunion. Idea is fine, though.

Hertl retained for 6 1/2 years is a hard no unless it’s a massive overpay! And even at no retention Hertl has value so each mil (or 6.5 over the contract) would be worth the equivalent of a 1st round pick. Meaning you’re looking at an NHL player a high prospect and 3 1sts to make this realistic and that would be a never in a million years for Colorado!

I dont disagree with Sharks not retaining for 6.5 years, but where has there been a trade or any precedent for each mil of retention being worth a 1st?

There’s never been a salary, retained that much for that long, especially for a player still producing. So there really isn’t a precident to be referenced. My basis is on typical Dumps that have been done in the past like Monahan, & Marleau etc. And those return the first so you have to imagine retaining 3 million for 6 1/2 years is equivalent of three of those type of deals. I could be dead wrong.
