Vlasic has $12.5 million in real money left for 2 years.

Campbell has $13.5 million in real money left for 3 years.

Word has Grier was handicapped by the cheap owners when he was trading EK65, so I'm guessing the owners would love to shed Vlasic's $12.5 million.

SJS would than have to pay Campbell $1 million more than Vlasic but get 1 extra season.

If SJS want to lose to get better Draft picks, who better than an ex Leaf Campbell, the Hawks are suceeding with that idea with ex Leaf Mrazek.

Obviously any trade like this (minus E. Kane, but that is funny as hell) would need a bribe of prospects and picks.

Campbell is in the AHL. Vlasic probably should be at this point (despite being an awesome shutdown D in his prime).

Advantage of the trade to SJ is to open up Vlasic's roster spot for a prospect without disrespecting him via waiver or buyout.

Actually I just worked the numbers for Vlasic's buyout next summer, it's not that bad.

Campbell's buyout next summer is worse.

So... yes if both teams go the buyout option, SJS would be better to try that with Vlasic rather than Campbell.

Why would Edmonton trade Evander Kane back to SJ?
