You guys are due for a very significant regression... not enough talent on your roster, awful 5v5 metric, and you guys aren't able to keep up .932 save percentage at 5v5.

Good thing the isles have a Norris caliber defenseman on their roster and an elite top 6

Dobsons having a good season but he's not Norris caliber and there are 15-20 defensemen better than him

He is definitely having a Norris caliber season. 2nd among D in goals above replacement , 3rd in points, elite at generating offense and one of the best dual threat D in the league.

62nd out 66 defensemen (min 500 min TOI) in CA/60
59th in FA/60
56th in SA/60
53rd in xGA/60
62nd in SCA/60

He's good at generating offense but he's not so great at preventing offense.

Those are on ice numbers, not isolated. Isles as a team are terrible defensively

He’s elite at generating offense, let’s not sell him short to push a narrative. He’s also one of the few defenseman in the league that can consistently outperform his xGF because of his elite shooting and passing

But even if the Isles are defensively a bad team those are still very bad numbers... you shouldn't be in the lower 1/4 quartile and still be considered a top defenseman... defending is the most important part of being a defensemen and the scoring is just extra

Okay so he's good at offense and bad at defense... he's basically a better version of TDA or a worse version of Roman Josi

on ice numbers that do not isolate a player from his teammates are useless. His xEVD is 0 , hes roughly average defensively this season and hes a top 3 offensive defenseman.

They put TDA with another offensive defenseman which never works... Still Norris candidates have to be the best all-around defensemen and he's not even close to that... there are two to three candidates on the Hurricanes that have been better all around defensemen than Dobson

defending is not the most important part of being a defenseman, tilting the ice and outscoring the opposition is the most important. You tried to use analytics and then your last statement completely goes against analytics. Ironic.

all around defenseman do not get the Norris. It's leans towards the best offensive defenseman. There isn't a Carolina defenseman who's had a better overall impact than Dobson this season which is what matters most

Dobson is nearly twice as valuable as most canes defenders

"defending is not the most important part of being a defenseman"- why do they call the position a defenseman then genius.
"tilting the ice and outscoring the opposition is the most important"- If tilting the ice was the most important metric then the Staal-Martinook-Fast line would be one of the best lines ever. I will give Dobson credit for putting up a lot of points but limiting chances against is the most important thing a defensemen can do and the Islanders just don't do it when he's on the ice

Jaccob Slavin and Brady Skjei have been much better all-around defensemen... they have just been screwed by a lack of good goaltending on our end.

Skjei... 1.78 p/60 at 5v5 while being 9th in CA/60, 7th in FA/60, 5th SA/60, 27th xGA/60, 14th in SCA/60
Slavin... 1.51 p/60 at 5v5 while being 16th in CA/60, 23rd in FA/60, 28th SA/60, 30th xGA/60, 17th in SCA/60

Dobson individually tilts the ice genius, as well as putting up elite production. Martinook, staal and fast can't finish and struggle at most things other than forechecking and playing solid defense.

When Dobson is on the ice, the isles generate offense at an elite rate and they score goals at an elite rate. They don't spend much time in the defensive zone because of Dobsons elite individual ability to tilt the ice and set up his teammates for tap ins.

on ice numbers are no better than using +/-....those are team stats, teammates and system have a huge influence on on ice numbers.

"Dobson individually tilts the ice genius, as well as putting up elite production."- So do the Hurricanes defensemen by taking the puck away and getting transition started and also contributing on the forecheck
"Martinook, staal and fast can't finish and struggle at most things other than forechecking and playing solid defense"- Their are also very good at generating offense just not converting on it

Not SPAR, SPAR Is a much better indicator of a defenseman's impact than any statistic you have posted in this thread.

Points are also a **** way of saying how players have an influence on the ice because they are greatly influenced by a bunch of external factors... % percentage, goaltending faced, situations, who's on the ice

The analytics back up that Dobson is one of the best offensive defenseman in the league. Both his isolated xgf/60 and GF/60 are among the best in the NHL among defenseman
