Montreal keeps the scoring they absolutely needed, at a solid cap hit, and Galchenyuk gets decent money and just enough term to book it out of town by the end of it. Good for both parties.

This should end any rumors he will be traded now. Will be interesting to see what people get who filed for arbitration. Least they didn't have to break the bank to keep this guy smile.

I'm a little surprised they gave him the extra year to allow him to have UFA status when it expires. I guess this shows they're willing to let him walk if he doesn't meet their expectations.

Maybe by doing that he was willing to take less money or a lower cap hit so he would be able to cash in if he did well? I guess instead of say doing 4 years he was willing to bet on himself to do just enough to become a UFA. Could also figure their window to win a Cup is 2-3 years, this also might allow them to trade him in final year or two if things are not going well for Habs wink.
