What are you talking about? What free agents has McDavid brought in? Russell? Lucic? I'd argue that Okposo is just as good as Lucic and that not having Russell is better than having him. Plus, adding FAs is stupid unless you need to fill like one spot to compete for a cup or you bring in high reward guys on cheap deals. Paying market price rarely works out and BUF just needs to build through the draft or trade for a defenseman.

Mcdavid is clearly the best, but I'm Damn glad we have we Eichel. I'd bet money on him scoring 80 points this year, and the Sabres being a better team than people think

I remember 1970 when Buffalo "won" the turn of the wheel and got Perrault as the first pick and Vancouver got Dale Tallon. Sabres won big time.
Eichel is good, very good. Buffalo's problem is spending money on players that don't measure up to their contracts. And in a cap world, that's a losing recipe.
The owner of Sabres also owns the Bills. Seems like a real decent guy. He spends money but he has long list of hiring poor GMs and poor coaches. For him and Buffalo fans (I'm a Bills fan) I hope they turn their franchises around.

Long list?

Bills GM
Bean (didn't hire Whaley)

So ONE Hiring

Bills Coach
Rex Ryan
Sean McDermott (ZERO GAMES AS COACH)

TWO HIRES

Sabres GM
Darcy Regier (was extended soon after he bought the team)
Tim Murray (his being fired was a shock to most and somewhat criticized)
Jason Botterill

TWO HIRES

Sabres Coach
Lindy Ruff (long time coach, can't blame him on Pegula)
Ron Rolston
Ted Nolan Both were brought in for the tank and quickly dismissed..
Dan Bylsma Yes, very bad but honestly at the time of his hiring was considered by most at the 2nd best coach available
Phil Housley

FOUR HIRES this is the only passable one.
All I'm saying is i think you are reaching.. ESPECIALLY with the Bills.

Thanks for the correction. The last few years of Ralph Wilson had some bad signings.
You may too young to appreciate the following story. A good friend of my is also a friend of a former Sabre, along with multiple teams. But the player (who I would rather not name) has this great letter which I have read. It was from Seymour Knox who was one of the original owners of the Sabres. This player was traded from Sabres to the Kings. Mr Knox wrote a lovely letter telling of great appreciation of the player, his contribution to the team and his contribution to the young club in the early years of expansion. Funny to see the typewriter written letter now. But it sure looks more personal than on computer driven letter/memos/emails.
