Kill Ken Holland
Ken Holland is a nice man.
What you actually want is for Florida to flood for a year and Stevie Y to relocate the Tampa Bay Lightning to Detroit, at least until the Red Wings are on an upswing again

Matt Moulson a healthy scrath - shocking
Moulson has a 12 team trade list.
If BUF retains salary, Moulson+Bogosian in exchange for picks+prospects?
That clears up $5x2 and $5.1x3 in salary for Buffalo, bolsters NYI who are at a pivotal point, and doesn't touch either team's core.
Buffalo gets an almost clean sheet for long term contracts, with the only secured veteran remaining being Pominville with one more season after this one
That space allows them more creativity if they deal Kane, both in open roster spots and in salary room
If it doesn't work out for NYI this season, Tavares leaves, the team moves... they won't mind an extra year of Moulson and two of Bogosian, nor will they miss depth prospects. If it works out, they're happy as clams

Reinhart
Reinhart would cost the same tier as Malkin
(#2 2014), (#2 2004)
Too early to say who will be better, but Reinhart is close enough for now while the current era of lower scoring, worse officiating, and tougher competition stops you from giving a definitive answer
At the very least, Reinhart is younger+cheaper when there is almost nothing more valuable than that

We Need New Lines
Bennett was fast, which will help offset the slower game of veterans like Stajan, Brouwer, Jagr
Smith looked good
Bad news was the only D pair that looked good was Giordano/Hamilton. Everyone else had problems in d-zone coverage or in moving the puck up ice
Coaches will figure out to loosen the systems once they trust players can execute them
Other teams will ease up on the forecheck
The Flames will then have more room and ability to move the puck up ice fast, which was their strength all last season

No, he's not. He's not even under an NHL contract with Vegas.
<a href="http://sinbin.vegas/tyler-wong-contract-situation/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://sinbin.vegas/tyler-wong-contract-situation/</a></div></div>
Well that's what I meant, he is an NHL UFA. He brought some scoring and excitement in the pre-season, and this roster is about signing Tyler Ennis who is a bigger commitment for something not that much different.
Sbisa is still getting better to this day, and has stretches where he's great -- I wouldn't fret about getting a good return for him that's useful to Vegas longer than Ennis would be.

Opening Lineup According To TSN
Umm, you don't need to be a genius with lines. You can change them as often as you like, and you'll be pushed by external factors to change anything that was working. It doesn't matter where you start, just that you are adapting smoothly -- not changing them too often, not being too stubborn.
The bigger questions right now are the D amidst injuries, and what workload Talbot can sustain without physical breakdown
The upside is in the new faces at forward, which might allow for trading RNH/Puljujarvi/etc. in exchange for something to bolster the backend

Winnipeg Jets signed Nikolaj Ehlers (7 Years / $6,000,000 AAV)
This is the time the Jets should make a push even if they keep to an internal cap
Laine might become the Jets' highest paid when it gets negotiated next season.
Scheifele = $6.125 for 7 seasons more
Byfuglien = $7.6 for 4 seasons more
Fortunately Buffy's NMC becomes a no-trade list of 14 teams once next season begins

This is now the first year of Tanev's 8 team no trade list, which is one reason why Canucks fans offered him up in trades (also his age, and value above salary)
$1 million retained
and a 4th
To get a late 1st? Easy pass, every GM in the league would outbid if Benning even entertained that call
Canucks will hold off on any trades until trade deadline now and prices will rise as teams bank cap space

What a perfect team name right now.
If you're willing to take the initiative and offer high quality picks/prospects to fill out a roster in future seasons, Chris Tanev is a younger Bouwmeester at a lower cap hit. He does shoot right but doesn't seem to have a weak side. Swap them and add picks. It's gutsy

Lineup, pretending that Lupul passed his physicals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DragonRaptorHybrid</b></div><div>if Lupul is deemed healthy, then he's absolutely getting buried on the Marlies, no question.</div></div>
Unlike with Robidas, now all salary above $1 million or so per AHL player counts against the NHL team cap.
Plus Lupul has a 14 team approved trade list, making him harder to trade.
Retaining salary wouldn't help, paying a team with an internal budget would be expensive in terms of picks/prospects, and all this leads to trading JVR on very short notice for whatever doesn't return salary.
BUT Lupul is going to be a good boy, he's out of shape and not ready to play if the Leafs are forced into letting him play. So he'll shut up and not challenge the physical's results with independent doctors.
The one remaining risk is if Lou Lamiorello gets spanked by the other owners like they did with the Kovalchuk contract. Rogers has substantial influence with the core NHL executive, but even they take orders from the core group of old owners.

I see Jake DeBrusk is slotted into the lineup. I'm waiting to see Jakub Zboril and Zachary Senyshyn.
More than any contract signing, those 3 consecutive picks will define Sweeney.
(return for Hamilton was #15/Senyshyn, #45/Forsbacka-Karlsson, #52/Lauzon. #13/Zboril was for Lucic)

JVR Trade w VAN
Vanek brings the same game as JVR just a few years older at only 2 million, and if Vanek isn't playing there's youngsters ready to steal his spot. Also, the Canucks like both Granlund and Stecher.
There's probably a better trade partner out there.

PARAYKO RNH TRADE ( 2 OFFERS)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AK_tune</b></div><div>Thanks for sharing the stats, but I don't think they're anywhere close to painting the whole picture. I doubt you'll be able to find anyone else on the planet that thinks Nurse = Parayko.</div></div>
It's kind of irrelevant, but a quick look shows Darnell Nurse and Nikita Tryamkin are good comparables 1 year apart. I'm so hopeful Tryamkin plays his 2 years in the KHL and returns to the Canucks.
Worth noting that of the 3, Darnell Nurse was by far the earliest pick
Darnell Nurse #7 in 2013. 6'4" 213 lbs
Parayko was #86 in 2012. 6'5" 226 lbs (Parayko probably weighs more today, played like he was 230+ in playoffs)
Tryamkin was #66 in 2014. 6'7" 265 lbs
Byfuglien was #245 in 2003. 6'5" 250 lbs
There is clear bonus value to being bigger so long as you can skate (Griffin Reinhart was drafted because he was big and had a familiar name. He can't even skate or read the play.)
Until they change the rules, being a big body lets D get away dishing out a lot damage on guys standing still in front of the net or in the corners. You just never know if they learn to skate, read the game at a faster pace, or have hands softer than cement once they stop growing. All of them have the potential to play top pairing for a decade, although more and more giants who can skate are entering the league now so maybe that advantage disappears before they retire.

PARAYKO RNH TRADE ( 2 OFFERS)
Thanks for the details CD282
I do rate Parayko a bit more highly than Nurse for 2 reasons not covered yet.
1. Parayko came out of nowhere from college and didn't miss a beat, I've been expecting Nurse to break through since he was drafted. Unfair, doesn't count for squat, but it's the truth.
2. Parayko has a more punishing game, he's not just big, he plays a bit like Shea Weber. Nurse hasn't shied away from fights or anything like that, he's just less intimidating.
You did remove PPG from the comparison, and just from memory Parayko does have a nice shot he scores with. I think of Parayko excelling in every category, where I think of Nurse as a very smooth defender. Nurse could outdo Parayko's last 2 years, with his own next 2 -- great point you reminded us of, but I would rather elevate Nurse than downplay Parayko in the evaluation.
