I'm not sure if Calgary would get a prospect and another pick on top of a first rounder but if Calgary eats half of Tanev's money I don't think it would be far off.

I think Toronto likely passes on that one - Tanev is a solid little player, but a 1st and prospect - probably a price tag toronto isn't willing to pay.

Dumba, Tanev, Hannifin, Skeje, Pesce, Montour, Hronek, Gostisbehere, Dillon, Zadorov, Edmundson, Roy, Demelo, Lyubushkin, Walker, Fabbro, OEL... the list goes on. This is a very good stock of free agents D men this year. By the time next season starts, i see the D looking more like Rielly- Pesce McCabe-Brodie Liljegren-Gio. Then at NEXT years trade deadline, IF the team is working out well and things look good from the FWD group, THEN you make a move. Move Gio to the 7 hole. Drop Brodie to the third pair with Liljegren. And find a good new partner for McCabe. Like a Tanev. But trading for him now does nothing. This D corps is more than 1 player away from success. If you make that trade now, it doesn't change this seasons out. Then what if Nylander walks? Or Domi and Bertuzzi and Gregor walk? Then what? Now your FWD group is in shambles and the assets you threw away on Tanev were for nothing.

OK. Well I disagree. I think the Leafs are not a top 5 team in the league right now. And Tanev isn't going to change that. They need more than just him.
